SUBJECT: Meeting with the SSCI Senior Staff, 1 February 1988
The meeting was held on 1 February 1988 in SHOB-211.
Attending for the SSCI were Sven Holmes, Jim Dykstra, and Dave
Holliday. Britt Snider and Keith Hall came in late and George
Tenet was present during the discussion of INF matters. John
Helgerson, represented the office of
Congressional Affairs. Chief/ACIS, was present
for the discussion on INF. The following issues were discussed.
-- Holmes informed us that the Committee's hearings
on the statutory IG will be open.
-- Senator Glenn's staff is looking for a vehicle for
a GAO amendment. S-1721 is a likely candidate.

-- The staff expressed irritation that lobbyists
called Committee staffers on open lines promoting a
positive vote at the Committee's 3 February covert
action hearing. ffers blamed the Department of
State. (Action: to alert State and DO.)
-- On INF, Holmes stress that the hearing on
3 February was not going to focus on the recent
cancellation of a collection system, but that present
and future monitoring capability would be a major
concern. Members of the Armed Services Committee have
been invited to attend.
