1. This is an interim status memorandum on your referenced re uest to
OIT. Members of Data Communications Division, EG/OIT, met with
to discuss your connectivity requirements for the Systems Center/DI.
s we understand it, your requirement is to attach 40 to 50 new Integraph
workstations for interactive access to VM over the next 2 years. We recommend
that you configure the workstations as a SNA 3270 terminal connected through
the PBX for access to host processors. This is the standard configuration for
Headquarters SNA terminals. This configuration will provide the greater
flexibility and throughput compared to other host connectivity options
discussed. These requirements will be forwarded by Engineering Group to
Customer Service Group, OIT, for planning and implementation. They will
contact you for future activities.
2. A backup strategy for connecting the Integraph workstations is to
provide a SNA communications gateway in the VAX processors. The security
issues must be addressed before this option is implemented and we would be
happy to work with you should you wish to pursue that option in the future.
