Between 5 and 20 August 1952 North Korean refugees who crossed the Tivmen 50X1-HUM River in Manchuria to Avoid air raids were sent back to North Korea by the Chinese Communists. The Chinese informed the Koreans that they would allow no more refugees in Manchuria until the matter was settledon a higher level, that the refugees might carry epidemic germs into Manchuria, that the refugees should join the North Korean army instead of fleeing, And that would bomb Manchuria if the Chinese sheltered Koreans there. 50X1-HUM 2. In early August the North Korean government asked all refugees who fled to Manchuria because of the air raids to return to North Korea. Returning refugees were kept in camps at HyesanjiiH ) (DA-3283). On 9 50X1-HUM August 1952 there were 2,500 refugees at Hyesanjin.
