ByRSON MORAN
The University of Rochester's
student coordinator for the Na-
tion al Student Association
(NSA), largest collegiate organ-
ization in the nation, said today
he was "shocked and repulsed"
to learn the association has
`-? been accepting money from the
Central :ntelligence Agency.
Eugene Groves president ?r
the association, admitted
CIA ? and altough the NSA
officers claim that the CIA did
not use the NSA for intelligence
purposes, I question this," Peri-.
man stated.
He added that it was possible
some students on NSA trips to
E uropean student congresses
could have engaged in intelli-
gence work for the CIA.
.The irony of the disclosure,
Perlman added was that the
Washington, D .0 ., yesterday
that the NSA had been receiving
funds from the CIA sinee the ?
early :O's. The 'arrangement
was recently t er min ate d,
Groves said.
At U. of R., Stan Perl-
man, NSA campus coordinator
and editor of' the school news-
paper, "The Campus Times,"
said "the only noble p'art' of this
dubious arrangement" was that,
it had bcen stopped.
' Perlman found it "in-,
excusable" for past NSA offi-
cers not to inform local repre-t
sentativcs that CIA funds were,
paying for NSA participation'
in overseas conferences and
foreign. student ,exchange pro-,
grams.
t?5?1-1-ave little respect for the:.
NSA, which has chapters on
more than 300 campuses where
about 1.5 million students are
enrolled, has been losing chap-
ters who were afraid the NSA
had.Communist.tiee. ?
At least one ? other local col-
lege has, been, involved with the
NSA. A spokesman for Nazareth
College .of Rochester said the
student government's Under-
graduate Association had.: re-
--15.1 (r-r%
centiv discussed affiliating with
the ? NSA and sent delegates to
last. autumn's NSA convention.
'But I don't think',we'll want.,
to join. now," -the 'spokesman!
said.?
The Rochester Institute of
Technology has been associated
with the NSA, but has drifted
away from the association
recent years.
