DRudolf Posusta was, up to January 1952, in charge of the supply referat. When he got a job at the brick factory in Trmice, he resigned from his position with the National Committee, Josef Strnad, a CP member is in charge of educational matters within the National Committee. 4. EIThe local CP organization in Tuchomysl has had a new chairman since April 1952 in the person of Rudolf Zemin. The Farmers' Cooperative in Tuchomysl was set up by (fnu) Alinc manager of the local Distribution Cooperative (Konsum). Its chairman is Josef Soucek but the actual management is in the hands of Frantisek Tomanek. The whole crop was left on the fields to rot. The same happened to the garlic crop, which, incidentally, is in very short supply all over the country. 6. Lin April th1950.= a serious hoof and mouth epidemic broke out in the village 50X1-HUM of Trmice, together with a fast-spreading epidemic of pig disentery (cervenka). At the same time, even the best fed cattle. were dying off from a third deadly disease of unknown origin and name. The Communist authorities got panicky, as they were unable to control the spreading of these epidemics; the village was placed under a kind nf quarantine. Children who visited the school in Trmice from neighboring villages were given a vacation, and the bus Which comMunicates between surrounding localities was detoured to bypass the stricken village. 70 all housewives under 45 years of age who had no children and were working only in the household, were no longer issued food ration coupons. This new measure, which was introduced without any-previous announcement in the press or radio, applied also to wives of heavy industrial workers. CONFIDENTIAL/US OFFICIALS ONLY SECURITY INFORMATION 50X1-HUM -3- The meat situation is particularly bad in Tuehomysl and its surrounding areas. Endless queues can be seen in front of Ptacek's butcher shop in Trmice whenever a supply of horsemeat is put on sale. On such days at least some 100 people can be found lining up at 4 in the morning. It often occurred that after hours of waiting, not even these early birds could get any meat. Even before the official opening hour of the shop, trucks from hospitals and factories drove up to the shop, bought up the entire horsemeat supply, and left nothing for the civilian population. As a rule, one-quarter of the meat ration coupon is used up for the pur- chase of horsemeat. 9. r]In February 1952 when the food rations of surfaceAgorkers were cut (in- stead of 3 kg of fats, they receive now only 1 k000 surface workers of the Prokop Hely pit in Tuchomysl organized a protest strike. After one hour of strike, the STB arrived from Usti Nad Ldbem, and arrested the miner (fnu) Tuma froiu Viklice as the organizer of strike, ,At the beginning of March, 29liefinalteatil*Tf5VAIEW40011011140itiMteitiitd-Ao organize another strike, and passed a resolution demanding the immediate . release of Tuma. Tuma was released and returned to the pit. 10. Preparations are underway to open up new shafts in the village of Tuchomysl. Part of the village is threatened because some of the new shafts will be blasted beneath the village. Already a new cemetery has been opened because the old cemetery is located in the future mining area. 11. Ebro fight the dangerously spreading alcoholism, the authorities set up a special ward in the Usti Nad Labem hospital where notorious alcoholists are being treated, such special yards have been set up also at other district hospitals.
