:aphthalene was the best known raw material processed in the plant, It
was supplied, as crude naphthalene in lumps, by other plants. The Combine
also received nitric acid supplias for nitrating purposes and pyrites for
its sulphuric acid production, CoaA supplies for the two boiler houses
came from the hard coel minas lo:ated on the right bank of the Donets laver.
6. In early 1949, the Combine had al-,out 2,000 adult workers and 250 KomsomoltsY,
who had to attend courses tw...) or three times weekLy. L;orkers were mainly
Ukrainians. In n:dition, up te 1,000 Fs ware employed in the reconstruction

partly by a wall, ' Guard dul.,y weni done by plant militia clad in blue uniforms
and armed with automatic weapons. There was also a plant fire brir;ade, the
members of which wore red epaulets, :iome of the Liards made their patrols
with watchdogs.

The constniction of tke building started befoee tJe war, but was stopped
when in rough brickleork. It was completed after the war. Equipment
consisted of dismantlees. German material including a laboratory of the
Deutsche Sprengstoff (Garman Explosives Corporation) in Silesia.
The laboratory was uesd to suppoet the production of the Combine, to
modernize obsolescent production ?7etbcds, and to cevelop new products.
The laboratory had a lrge German library. In Atctst 1949, about 80
people vere employed in the different laboratories including 23 German
experts who did compulsory work.

roofing covered with inmber and roofing felt. It 4az reconditioned and

for recrystallizing. The final nroduct was not submitted to further
processing in this factory but taken away In trucks.
