the central organization of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
instructed the regional political bureaus to direct local CCP committees con-
ducting the annual examination to use exemplary diligence in illuminating all
wipects of each Party member's thought and conduct, These instructions
specified the essential items to be examined as correct thinking, performance
record; relations with other Party members, relations toward the masses, attitude
tauards hsueh-hsi (4 11 ) and observance of discipline?
The regional bureaus were instructed to examine political workers of provincial
level or higher, and to delegate the responsibility for examining workers on
the hien level to the provincial or regional Party committee and those below
the halon level to the hsien or local party comeitteo?
5- The instructions further specified that workers Whose thinking or behavior
aroused suspicion during the course of this annual examination should be warned
to that effect, and a report be submitted to the public security department or
to the social affairs department ooncerned,,
