Morning Meeting of 8 June 1966
Of OSI gave a background briefing on Soviet production of
DD/I reported that a briefing on economic intelligence will be given
to General Maxwell Taylor tomorrow at 10 a. m. The briefers will be

DD/I noted a request by Secretary Vance for a joint CIA/DIA
statement on the subject of Communist military use of Cambodia.
DD/I reported signs that preparations may be under way for an air
show in Moscow this year. This would be the first such show since
July 1961. 1
DD/I reported completion of analysis of the military report to the
JCS concerning the 12 May shootdown of a ChiCom MIG. There are no
substantial differences between the Agency and the team which filed the
report.
Godfrey noted that Tri Quang has said that he will go on a hunger
strike until the President ends his support for Ky and Thieu. de Silva
observed that on previous hunger strikes Tri Quang had partaken liberally
of juices, fruits, etc. , and it was agreed that consideration will be given
to making certain that this is publicized.
Godfrey noted that a Cuban ship carrying athletes to international
competition in Puerto Rico will be denied entry at the San Juan port.
Godfrey tabled a memorandum on the new Soviet jet interceptor,
the Fiddler.

Haiti; in particular, Cuban capacity for invasion or infiltration of Haiti.

de Silva noted statements pertaining to Vietnam policy attributed
to him by Marvin Kalb on the CBS radio news summary today. Kalb Is
comments implied that de Silva had issued some sort of public state-
ment. This is not the case. It apparently was based upon an unclassified
think-piece done some time ago by de Silva. The think-piece is available
within the American Embassy in Saigon and was picked up by George
Lodge and made part of a book prepared by George Lodge.
Houston noted Senator Dirksen's statement yesterday that the issue
of the McCarthy resolution is in "suspended animation" following a
meeting with the President.
Houston noted that Senator Fannin of Arizona will be here tomorrow
for a breakfast session.
Houston and DD/P reported that a considerable effort is and has been25X1
under way to continue the investigation of 25X1
DD/P reported that he had met with Governor Harriman yesterday
to discuss USIA Director Marks' recent proposal for establishment of
a committee to look into psychological matters. DCI noted that Marks
had raised this issue with him following the SIG meeting yesterday.
DDCI reported briefly on his appearance yesterday at the Naval War
College, where he made an address.
DCI reiterated his concern over charges that he refused to brief the
Fulbright committee. The fact is that he offered an intelligence briefing
on some forty-four countries but refused to brief on intelligence sources
and methods.
