OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. Three out-of-hours beginners language classes for JOT's and
their wives were organized during this period and 12 other JOT's
were integrated into regular VLTP classes at more advanced levels of
instruction. Classes in German (101) and Spanish (101) for JOT's will
begin on 7 October. 'These classes will follow the regular VLTP
curricula and schedule of five hours instruction a week. Total enroll-
ment for these two,; classes is eleven students (5 in Spanish and 6 in
German). A late class in French, primarily for wives, will be started
on 8 October. Enrollment for this class which will be limited to one
2-1/2 hour session per week now stands at eleven. Registrations are
still being received for this class and it may possibly have to be
split into two classes. In addition to the JOT's mentioned above, a
total of 23 JOT's have been enrolled in regular VLTP language classes
since the beginning of the current semester. 0 displayed again
his usual efficiency and devotion to duty in carrying out the setting
up of these classes with a minimum of lost time.
2. The second running of the full-time advanced Chinese (RW)
course began 5 October with +hrAA at,,dents from FDD. In a meeting with

expressed their satisfaction with the methods and results o e first
running of this course, and stated that FDD now planned to send about
three students a year for several years. For the success of this course
appreciation is due to who have worked very hard at
planning and conducting it.

Georgetown, two hours every Monday. We are pleased to see this evidence
of interest and effort.

at teaching full-time Arabic to Monterey graduates at Fort Bragg. On
the strength of this and his general educational background, was
offered a beginning salary of $6,500, and we are now awaiting - with
crossed fingers - his acceptance.
5. Italian Basic III ( me) be an on Monday 5 October with
four students, three from WE - and one from CI Staff.
6. The French staff is giving full-time tutorial instruction to
a late enrollee from FE to enable him to enter the Basic French Class
Full-Time that began on 14 September.
7. Basic German RSW1 (FT) began on 5 October with an enrollment of
eight students.
