4. An evening dinner meeting with the male staff and contract
language faculty was held at home of C/LAS on 18 November, including
all male staff who did not attend the dinner of several weeks ago.
About 18 persons snuggled congenially and vivaciously into the small
quarters and vibrated the walls with lively conversation on profes-
sional topics, current events, and intercultural relations.
5. Regretfully but sympathetically we have read res-
ignation. While sorry he is leaving, we are grateful for the years
of service he has given us since we more or less took him off a train
for Cornell four years ago when we were desperately trying to organize
a full-time Russian program that now seems largely to have served its
