Enclosed are unclassified figures on Communist aid to
Nicaragua from 1981 to 1988, as requested by several Members
of the. Commi tt.ee during the 28 June,. current intelligence ,
br-i of i-ng . Please note that for . ma li.tary. assistance , _ th-e ..,
figure for 1988 represents actual deliveries during. the first
half of the year. In-the table on economic aid, however, the .
figure for 1988 is a projection for the entire year, based on
our knowledge of aid agreements and the schedules for
delivering aid.
The minor differences between these figures and those
compiled by DIA result mainly from the uncertainty over
whether some items (such as non-lethal supplies likely to be
used by security forces) should be considered as military or
as economic assistance.
