and (e) attempt to drive a bargain with the Kremlin which 411 grant
TadmilavIc greater autonomy within the Soviet bloc while simultaneously
delaying effective Soviet retaliation.
The Tito-Stalin rift will probebly have no eignifioant effect
on the other Satellites immediately. The Communist regimes in eastern
Europe are firmly under Moscow control and are dominated by old-line
Communists trained in oscow. In TUgoslavic, howevtr, the Communist
Party hat its roots within the country and has no internctionalints of
the stature of Llmitrov in 'Bulgaria, Panker in Rumania, Gottwald in
Oseehoslovakia. or Berman in Poland. These "internationalists" can
effsetively control any attempte by *nationalist" elements to waste
Tito. Moreover, the Zremlin will probably tighten its secnritY con-
trols over the other Satellite:: in order to prevsnt a recuurence of
Ti to s deviation.
