BROOME DR EN GAMBLE W raswIGGINSON KARL KELLERMAN CARL SIEG DR. E. WITTING Apo Mr. Allen W. Dulles, Director Central Intelligence Agency 2430 E Street, N. W. Washington 25, D. C. Dear Sir: November 13, 19A You are invited to nominate a staff member for spe- cial recognition during Engineers' Week. A similar invita- tion is being sent to other organizations having engineering, architectural, or scientific activities in metropolitan Wash- ington, D. C. Six young engineers, architects, and scien- tists will be honored on Wednesday, February 20, 1957, as part of the contribution of the D. C. Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies to the nation-wide observance of Engineers' Week. Nominations must be received no later than Thursday, Tanuary 10, 1957. The major objective of the entire program, includ- ing these awards, is to stimulate science education in the secondary schools of the Greater Washington area. We wish to appeal, both directly and through their teachers, to those high school students who would not otherwise se- lect engineering, architecture, or science as a vocation. We wish also to inform students of the importance of mathematics and introductory science. Many seem to avoid these subjects because of their difficulty or because of an attitude that students taking and doing well in them are somewhat peculiar. We wish to help impress students that these subjects are necessary preparations for practi- cal, rewarding and well-paying professions. Since we are appealing primarily to those not already informed or attracted, we are hoping to present for special recognition young professionals with whom students can identify them- selves, Sponoorect Page 2 Approved#r Release 2001/08/07 : CIA-RDP84-00313R000100110027-0 Nominees for special recognition during Engineers' Week must meet the following criteria: Age: 35 years or younger as of February 20, 1957.
