At 1530 hrs a formation of three approached the airfield on a headi of 360? broke formation and landed singly. Four iL 10s took off at the same time, - dived onto the airfield from approx 1500 ft and then landed, ?Jt Air; At 17~ hrs one LS 2 took off-and flev~ over the area north of GERICHSHAIN at about 1200 ft. Five or six parachutists baled out, some did not release their parachutes until apprwc x+50 ft before. landing, The LI 2 flew over again and five or six parachutists baled out. The aircraft then returned to the airfield and landed. It took off again after approx 10 minutes.- During the period up to 1800 hrs it made four or five take offs and. ~n a~rprox total of 25 parachutists baled out. Two IL 10s flew tiv'ide circuits over BRf~NDIS, '~~Then the aircraft came in to land, the runr~vay vvas illununated by the two searchlights until the aircraft had fia~ i^hed taxi-ing over the gJrass to the take- off, V~hilst flying eras in progress the revolving beacon was in action, with its beam at approx 150: it revolved six titnss then cut out for 3-1+ minutes, 5, ~~T T and Radar (a) (b) A W/T truck with whip aerial eras observed durir_g flying cm 11 :.pr 53. A telephone cable carried approx 2 m above the ground has been erected on a tent or but standing on the Southern edge of the airfield, 6. Personnel $. (a) It is estimated there are nor ,~pp:^~x 1200 aa1.7. ranks on the airfield, (b) All ORs snore S~1F sods. The r,A site in the NE corner of the airfield remains unchanged, The type of guns could nc~t be ascertained as they were covered with tarpaulins and are deeply emplaced. (b) On 2 NIay 53 a tripod approx 1.5 m high was set up. 11 box-shaped apparatus measuring ap-=>rox 10 x 15 x 25 cam Vvas laced on the tripod, An OR stood in front of the tripod, (a~ 9, Rem~.rks (a) Three aircraft blast shelters tivere constructed in the ;aeriod under revievr on the Nrr end of the ~.rfield betraeen the .static water tanks and the major repair hangar.
