A branch depot of the Jessen (td 52/iti 56) ordnance depot and repair shop was observed in Annaburg in early March 1950, Guns and rocket launchers were stored and repaired in Jessen and machine guns and carbines were assembled and sighted-in in Anriabur The woreshop was in the forr`:er NCO candidate school in the old castle. Rifle butts were also manufactured there. About 150 fteeiane and 30 Germans were employed, b. The former Ani.aburg fuel depot of the Gem an Luftwaife was destroyed. (1) 2, Alt Luedersdorf (N 54/U 60). The number of freight cars carrying hospital needs supplied from h:.rlshorst and unloaded there between Christmas 1949 and March 1950 was as high as 20. Poisonous medicaments were also picked up at Karlshorst by special messengers, c. Several thousand first-aid boxes were prepared in the depot in : "arch 1;50, Dissecting instruments were steri- lized, soaked in lanoline and wrapped in lanoline-impregnated paper. Several hundred stretchers as well as canvas, tent accessories and rubber beds were ready for use. Dental field equipment, X-ray apparatus and immense cuantities of dressing material were also stored there. Large earth- covered dexni-johns containing medical alcohol were stored in a shed which was constructed for that purpose. d. Physicians wiio had worked in the depot for several years were called home and replaced by junior personnel after early March 1950. The families of the married physi- cians were also shipped away, presuwably to the Soviet Union, They took their. furniture and aousehold belongings with them. (7) 7. Dresden (N 52/F 29), Fuel depot on Albers. Canal. 50X1-HUM a; A hundred and forty-seven rail road tank cars were cuun- ted entering the fuel depot on Albert Canal between 5 and 20 March 1950. Tha outgoing fuel was, in t.,e same period- trucked away by tank vehicles of the Derunapht. These trucks were driven by soldiers wearing red-bordered black epaulets. b. (b) Detailed observations: Four empty railroad boxcars were shunted to this.instal:ia- tion on 9 February 1950. In front of two elevators two boxcars each were loaded with MMft on 15 iebruary 1950. Truck was, at the 50X1-HUM same time, loaded with sacks from anotn4r elevator. This truck left in the direction of Erfurt, passenger car carrying a nigh-ranking officer 50X1-HUM wearing golden epau s, left on i ?'ebruary 1950. Three to six railroad boxcars were seen on the railroad spur track of this dep.:t on ;c0, 23, and 27 February and on 3 and 6 -arch 1950. Civilian workers ded these box- cars with sacks and boxes. Truck as loaded with 50X1-HUM sacks on 24 February 1950, Three to six railroad boxcars were identified on the rail- road spur track on six different days between 6 and 18 March 1950. However, only limited motor traffic was seen. b. The following data were secured between 6 and 15 March 50X1-HUM 1950: (1) Two ooviet agencies, each commanded by a major bind having a pay off'ele of its own, were at 26 and 27 Nord- haeuserstrasse. elevators, located in the direction of Marbach (two containing grain and two cereals, potatoes and vegetables) and the cold storage house where meat, butter and oil were stored. Fifty to sixty aoviet tEM who were ouartered in the mentioned houses, were employed in these installations. Fifty-eight Germans worked in the silos and 65 others in the cold storage hoi,se. (2) Shipments to the .arbachration supply depot came from Frankfurt/Oder (453/V 63) via Lrfurt-Nord, usually in sealed boxcars. (3) These two agencies allegedly supplied rations to the areas south of Erfurt and, north and northeast of Lrfurt, as far as Halls Ut 52/D 92) and Leipzig (N 52/E 21). Falkensee (N 53/Z 65). Fuel depot On 10 March 1950 a fenced-in area was identified between the Faikensee railroad station and the sjuthern exit oi. town. This area bordered on the !Aitropa repair shop and served as a doviet fuel depot. I railroad spur track was available. Tank trucks were identified inside the fenced-in area. Gersdorf (N 53/V 18).nunition depot. (.Annex 2) The following data were secured on 18 and 19 February 1950: a. An excellently camoui]aged ammunition depot was in former German ammunition bunkers, so-called "Maxberge", north of Gersdorf. (See annexed sketch). b. Iarly in the morning of 19 February 1950 trucks 50X1-HUM left the depot on the hig way to Hohenfinow (N 53/V 16). They were driven by soldiers 50X1-HUM wearing red-bordered black epaulets and artillery insignia. c. A motor pool of about 10 motor vehicles which made shipments for this depot was identified in Hohenfinow. Tinned sheet iron, tin, and zinc had recently been shipped to the depots Ammunition had been shipped before. (11) 11. Jessen (N 52/L 56), Ordnance depot. The following data wer:: secured in late March 1950: a. The Jessen ordnance depot and the quarters belonging to it were in a fenced-in section of Jessen. This area bordered on the road to Elster (N 52/1!, 57) to the south- west, the roads to Schweinitz (N WE 66) to the south- east and the road to the railroad station and the railroad line to the northeast. In this restricted area were a villa, 10 to 12 apartment houses, the former plateware factory, 18 sheds, 40 to 50 meters long, and 5 sheds, 80 to 100 meters long, b. About 35 split-trail guns of about 100 mm caliber (type similar to the 1118/40" light field howitzer. of tre German army) were stored in six sheds between the rail- road line and the highway. Three other sheds were empty. The former plateware factory was in operation, supervised by the Soviets. Production data could not be furnished. c. Another cantonment was north of the railroad line, northwest of the Jessen railroad station. It consisted of nine cantonment buildings which were EO to 100 meters long and about E. meters wide. bight of them were empty. d. The guard unit which belonged to these depots consisted of about 300 to 400 troops who wer,ti 20 to 2 5 years old. About 70 percent of the troops wore artillery insignia, 20 percent red-bordered black e;:;aulets and 10 percent black- bordered red epaulets. Mushroom-shaped guard stands were along the fence at 100 meter intervals. Only one out of three guar-d stands was manned in the day-time. 12. Muellrose (0 53/V 52). Tank spare parts depot. (Annex 3) a, The annexed sketch of the guellrose tank spare parts depot was made on 16 March 1950. b. No activity was seen at this depot where an engineer unit of about 2,4 troops was stationed A soccer team was carried by trucks to games held in Frankfurt/Oder. 13. Neustrelitz area (N 54/U 54). A munition depot. (Annex 4) An ammunition depot was identified northeast of Neustre- litz in mid-February 1950. Three cantonment buildings for the guard unit were in the southwestern part of the area. Six more, about 15-meter-long cantonment buildings were enclosed by a special barbed wire fence. Fire extinguishers were fixed to-these buildings. Numerous concrete bunkers with steel doors were behind the cantonment buildings in a elightU ascending woodland. This depot was strictly guarded. A truck parked near the entrance 14 the driver wearing red-bordered black epaulets. 14. Pinnow (N 54/Q 21). Ammunition dump. (Annex 5) ~. Soviet ammunition dump was identified in a woodland near Pinnow in mid-February 1950. .6ight brick structures (30 x 8 meters) were in the dump which was guarded by a German Volkspolizei detail. Soviet troops or Soviet military installations were not identified there. (15) 15. Potsdam (N 53/Z 63). Fuel and ammunition dump on Sorn- stedter Feld. A fuel depot was identified about 500 :Haters V-NW of the Radebeul-d"est marshaling yard on 29 and 30 March 1950. The following installations were seen; One three-story brick building, in the northwestern part inscribed with "Betriebsstoff-AC, Dresden" (Dresden fuel joint-stock company) One large tank about 6 meters ,high and 5 meters in diameter was in front of this building Two cantonment buildings Several stationary, longsfuel tanks, of the saue size as rail- road tank cars, west of the cantonment buildings; the exact number of these tanks was not learned. One long, lean-to-roof covering about 300 x 200-litter gasoline drums, b. Reidefeld ammunition dump. a. Infantry ammunition was stored in the tieidefeld ammunition dump south of athenow according to information obtained on 25 March 1950, A large ordnance shop was also said to be in the dump. Infantry weapons were allegedly overhauled there. b. Incoming and outgoing shipments were made by truck. Roederau (' 52/"181). Ammunition depot. (Annex E) The following details were observed on 4 April 1950: a. A strictly guarded aquuunition depot, about 1,000 x 500 meters, was 11- krn north of the loederau railroad station. b. A huge stockpile of empty cartridges was dumped in the open in the southwestern corner of this depot. About 1,000 100x100x30-cm boxes, made of viood or sheet ;t-etal, and allegedl}r containing artillery ammunition, were stored under a lean-to roof. Two smaller dumps were covered with planAs so that details could not be learned. No motor traffic was seen. `'one of trio sentries wore red- bordered black epaulets, some black-bordered red ones. Fusel, ammunition and other supplies were said to be stoc:~piled in this depot. b. Zighty 40-ebrn fuel tanks were installed in t -e depot area by mid-iebruary L950. Lore tangs came by a railroad spur track all the time. A total of 500 s Tiliar tanks was said to be installed there, `t'he fuel tanks were installed underground connected to underground Lupply pipes and later tested for compression strain. c. Numerous magazines under construction were said to be for ammunition and ration supply .storinb. The target date set for the completion of the bath of this d,.-pot was - 15 February 190.
