Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08CO1297R000100270003-1 Border Treaty Between the Mongolian People's Republic' and the Chinese People's Republic The Presidium of the Great People's Hural of the Mongolian People's Republic and the chairman of the Chinese People's Republic feel that the official demarcation of the boundary between the Mongolian People's Republic and the Chinese People's Republic, based on the spirit of proletarian internationalism and the principle of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, mutual understanding, and mutual conceding, will be beneficial to the further development and consolidation of the traditional fraternal friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries as well as compatible with their interests; thus it has been decided that this treaty be formed and that plenipotentiaries be appointed: The Presidium of the Great People's Hural of the Mongolian People's Republic has appointed Yumjaagiyn Tsedenbal, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Mongolian People's Republic'; and The Chairman of the Chinese People's Republic has appointed Chou En-lai, Premier of the State Council. The plenipotentiaries, having mutually exchanged credentials and having found them in order, have decided on the following articles of agreement: Article 1 The parties concluding the treaty have authorized the following description of the boundary line between the two countries: Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08CO1297R000100270003-1 Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08CO1297R000100270003-1 1. From the 4,050 elevation point of Taban Bogd Uul (Huyten Uul) of the Mongol Altayn Nuruu (Altayn Nuruu) which is the western terminal of the boundary line between Mongolia and China, the boundary line runs along the main Mongol Altayn Nuruu (Altayn Nuruu) between Hobd Gol and Har Erchis (Erchis) Gol through the 4,355 elevation point of Hayramdal Orgil, through the Postigiyn (Bituu Hanasyn) Dabaa, through the 3,622.4 elevation point of Al,.g Dzeliyn.Uyl, through Bituu Hanasyn (Mandiba) Dabaa, through Somyn Dabaa, through Tahilt (Tahilga)-yn Dabaa, through the 3,386.8 elevation point, through Homiyn Dabaa, through the 3,181.2 elevation point, through Dzagastyn Dabaa, through Turgeniy Dabaa, through Sumdayrgiyn Dabaa, through the 3,501.4 elevation point, through the 3,943.2 elevation point of Ondor Hayrha.n Irmeget (Urmogayt)-eyn Dabaa, and through the 3,326.4 elevation point to the 3,291.9 elevation point. 2. From the 3,291.9 elevation point, the boundary line runs southeast downward along the branch Mongol Altayn (Altay) Nuruur etween Yamaatyn Gol and Har Erchis (Hala Erts Gol) Gol, through the 3,161.4 elevation point of the Huyten Arshaantyn Uul to Urt Bulgiyn Dabaa, then along the mountain range between Habtsal Bulgiyn Gol (Huyten Gol) and Urt Bulgiyn Gol, then northeastward, then eastward to a point about 0.08 kilometers directly north of the 2,295.6 elevation point, then in a straight line northeastward in the direction of 56 degrees 42 minutes to Yamaatyn Gol, then down along the Yamat Gol to the ford in the river where a road crosses, then from the ford along the road on the south side of the river, then along the river, then downstream to the confluence of the Ymaat Gol and the Urt Bulgiyn Gol, then ascending generally southeast- ward along the summit of the mountain to the 2,761.2 elevation point, Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08CO1297R000100270003-1 Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08C01297R000100270003-1 then descending generally southeastward along the mountain range between the Tsaashaa Yamaatyn Gol and the Shine Salaa (Sin'jin) Gol, through the 2,225.5 elevation point to the confluence of the Yolt'ol and the Shine Salaa (Sin'jin) Got, downstream along the Yo?t Gol to the confluence of the Yolt Gol and the Baga Turgeniy (Ih Turgeniy) Gol, then generally eastward along the mountain range between the Baga Turgeniy (Ih Turgeniy) Gol and the Ih Turgeniy (Baga Turgeniy) Gol, through the 3,029.5 elevation point to the 3,215.1 elevation point, then generally northeastward along the mountain range between the Yolt Gol and the Hurimt (Dzuun Salaa) Gol to the 3,574.5 elevation point of Obchuun Uul, then along the ridge of the mountain eastward and slightly southward, through the 3,086.8 elevation point, then to a point about 0.4 kilometers below the con- fluence of the Shar Hamaryn (Batlasha) Gol and a nameless tributary which flows into this river from the west, through the Shar Hamaryn (Batlasha) Got, then generally northeastward ascendign along the spur of the mountain to the 3,056.8 elevation point of the Mongol Altayn (Altay) Nuruu, then generally eastward along the main range of the Mongol Altayn (Altay) Nuruu between the Sagsay Gol and the Hurimt (Dzuun Salaa) Gol through Ih (Hurimt) Dabaa, then turning southeastward, to ,a point on the mountain ridge about 0.7 kilometers west of the 3,039.9 elevation point, then following the mountain ridge southwestward, through the 2,936.0 elevation point, then turning southward and slightly eastward for about 1.5 kilometers, through the Burketuyasy Har (Hesleg YaGol, and then southeastward along the spur of the mountain to the 2,998.2 elevation point. -3- Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08C01297R000100270003-1 Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/09/07: CIA-RDP08CO1297R000100270003-1 W W_! r 3. From the 2,998.2 elevation point, the boundary line runs along the main Mongol Altayn (Altay) Nuruu between the Sagsay Gol and the Har/- Erchis (Erchis) Gol, through the Turgen Nuur (Shaujin Suela)-yn Dabaa, through the 3,743.1 elevation point, through the Turgen Dabaa, through the 3,626.4 elevation point, through the 2,875.2 elevation point_of Hayrt (Mondaychi~L) Daba,, through the 3,879.4 elevation point, and through the 3,594.$ elevation point to a nameless (Hayrtyn) Dabaa, then southeastward along the mountain range for about 1.6 kilometers, then southwestward along the branch range of the Mongol Altayn (Altay) Nuruu, through the 3,194.7 elevation point, then down along spur of the mountain to the west side of a small lake, across a nameless river, ascending southward along the spur of the mountain to the 3,206.0 (3,206.8) elevation point, then southward along the mountain ridge to the 3,199.0 elevation point of a nameless pass then along the main Mongol Altayn (Altay) Nuruu between the Buyant Gol and the Har Erchis (Erchis) Gol, through Elstiyn Dabaa, through Chigirtey Dabaa, through Arshaant Dabaa, through Gants Modny (Jalegejagachi) Dabaa, and through the 3,272.8 elevation point to the 3,869.7 elevation point of the summit Ll..u.( of Dushin;.-__.
