1. In 1959, Lvov had a population of )+50,000,of whom the majority were Russians
and Ukrainians. The city was divided into four rgy?ny: Leninskiy, the
center; Stalinskiy, the southeast part; Krasnoarmeyskiy, the northwest part;
and Zheleznodorozhnyy, the northeast part.

3. Offices of the Oblast Construction Repairs Directorate (Obl. Zhil Stroy
Upravleniye), which was subordinate to the Lvov Sovnarkhoz, were located
at 74 Zelenaya ulitsa. The directorate was engaged in rebuilding
residential and office buildings and had five construction offices (stroy
uchastky): No. 1 at 6 Zelenaya ulitsa, No. 2 at 20 ulitsa Chkalova, No. 3
at 11 ulitsa Bernadynska, No. 1 on ulitsa Kalinina, and No. 5 on ulitsa
Botvina. Each construction office employed about 300 to 350 workers. The
directorate also had an electrical and mechanical works office (mekh. Uchastok),,
located at 24 ulitsa Chapayeva, which employed about 20 to 25 workers in the
repair of elevators and electrical systems in the restored buildings.
4+. The following industrial plants were in Lvov:
a. A meat packing combine (myasokombinat), which included an abbatqir,
a sausage factory, and a meat canning plant. The combine employed
about 1,000 workers and also had a laboratory which reportedly pro-
duced vaccines for the army (details unknown).
b. The"Kontakt"Plant (Zavod Kontakt), on ulitsa Turgeneva, employed about
300 workers in the production of electricity meters and small telephone
exchanges.
c. A large refrigeration plant and a new bicycle factory had been
established in the Novyy Lvov section, which had been under construction
since World War II.
d. A small electric lamp factory, which employed about 100 workers, occupied
the former premises of the bicycle factory.
e. An oil refinery, which produced benzine, paraffin, and lubricants. The
crude oil was shipped from Baku.
f. A cotton thread mill, on ulitsa Bogdana Khmelnitskogo, employed about
400 workers.
g. Glass Plant No. 2, established after World War II, employed about 250
workers. The plant produced glasses and jars and was about to produce
cut glass utensils in 1959.
h. A railroad locomotive and car repair plant (Lvovskiy Parovozo-Remontnyy
Zavod), which employed about 2000 workers.
i. Glass Plant No. 1, on ulitsa Shevchenko, employed about 500 workers and
produced mainly ordinary sheet glass reinforced with barbed wire.
Most of the industrial `power plants in Lvov and one of the turbines at the
municipal power station (GRE were operated by gas.

b. Kostritskaya (fnu),I had been chief
engineer at the Oblast Construction Repairs Directorate since 1955.
c. Lt. General Shevchenko (fnu) was commanding orficer of the Regional
KGB in Lvov.
d. Ustinov (fnu), had been director of the
Oblast Construction Repairs Directorate since 1954.

Military District Air Force Rear Headquarters (Shtab Tila. Voyen.Vozdushr kb)
which was transferred to the Rear Headquarters of the Carpathian Military
District on ulitsa Ivana Franko.
12. Gas works, to rich gas was piped from Dashava Ll`49-16, E 24+-007. The
works also had a gas appliances factory (Zavod Gazovoy Apparatury).
13. Frontier Troops Headquarters (Shtab Ppgran.Voysk), which was responsible
for the area under the Carpathian Military District. The headquarters
occupied a three-story building at 22 ulitsa Gorkogo, which also housed the
editorial board and printing works of the Frontier Troops newspaper,
Pogranichnik.
14. Municipal housing department. Before 1956 this building had housed the
15. Carpathian Military District Headquarters.
16. A five-story building housing the Obkom, Oblispolkom, and Obkom Komsomola.

20. Military barracks area. An antiaircraft artillery unit, equipped with
85-millimeter antiaircraft guns, was stationed there in 1956.
21. A civilian plant, which employed about 50 workers, located in a former
military vehicle repair plant.
22. Automatic telephone exchange.
23. Regional Militia Headquarters and Regional Court.
24. Rear Headquarters of the Carpathian Military District and Rear Headquarters
of the Military District Air Force, in a four-story building.
25. Oblast KGB, a five-story building on ulitsa D4erzhinskogo.
