Crystal Video Syste
1. The attached proposal has been examined and a review made
of the requirements existing or foreseeable for the use of the second
unit of the Marine Crystal Video System. Operationally, no oppor-
tunity is anticipated whereby this system might be utilized either
by this Office or DD/P. (As you know, the Agency has retired from
operating PT Boats for ELIVT Collection.) In view of the fact that
no operational requirement exists, it is our opinion that the expen-
diture of funds to continue the development of this system is now
unjustified. Should a need for a system with this capability arise
in the future, it is felt that the present system will be outmoded
by the (TWT) Traveling Wave Tube and other advances in the state of
the art.
2. It is therefore requested that this contract be continued
only to the extent of supplying a Battery Charger for the existing
system. This charger to have the capability of charging all the
batteries simultaneously and permit the batteries to be floated,
after a full charge, at a constant voltage of 1.11 volts per cell.
The remaining system and residual inventory should be shipped to
and placed in Allocation 22.
3. Funds for the accomplishment of paragraph 2 above are avail-
able and should be charged against the 07 Category under Allotment
#`7-7912-50-600.
