Origin: Paragraph 17 of N3C 154 (see Section II-A above)
calls for the development of, as a matter of urgency,
the position which the United States will take during
political negotiations with respect to the Republic of
Korea. The Council was advised in NSC 154 that the Planning
Board is preparing a report for Council consideration on
this subject.
Current Status: Awaiting consideration by the Planning
Board at an early meeting of a draft report by State on
"U,S. Objective with Respect to Korea Following an
Armistice", to be circulated.

Origin: The Council on May 13 (NSC Action No. 788) noted
a brief oral report on the subject by Mr. C. D. Jackson,
and directed the Psychological Strategy Board to submit
for Council consideration a plan for coordinated
psychological operations based on Thailand.
Current Status: Awaiting a report from the Psychological
Strategy Board pursuant to the above action. Tentatively
scheduled for Council consideration on June 25.

Orman: The Council at its meeting on May 28: Adopted
the statement of policy contained in NSC 97/3, with the
exception of paragraph 8 which was adopted in principle
on the understanding that the Director of Defense Mobiliza-
tion will: (1) Coordinate the implementation of sub-
paragraphs 8-a and b in the light of a review of the
military requirements by the Secretary of Defense;
(2) Coordinate the implementation of subparagraph 8-c in
the light of discussions by the Secretary of Commerce
with representatives of the tanker and shipbuilding
industries; (3) Submit to the National Security Council
a progress report, with particular reference to (1) and
(2) above, not later than July 1, 1953, The Council
also suggested that NSC 97/3 be referred for comment to
Civilian Consultants to be selected by the President (NSC
Action No. 798-b and d).
Current Status: Awaiting preparation of a progress report
by the Director of Defense Mobilization pursuant to NBC
Action No. 798-b and comment from the Civilian Consultants

BASIC NATIONAL SECURITY POLICIES AND PROGRAMS IN RELATION
and adopted was approved by the President on April 29 and
issued as 149/2. The Council adopted the reductions in
the atomic energy program proposed in Part II of NSC
149/1, with the understanding that: (1) the Atomic Energy
Commission will review the possibility of further reduc-
tions as a result of the elimination of the large ship
reactor program and the aircraft nuclear propulsion program,
pursuant to Action 768-e (see also NSC Action No. 779);
(2) The Secretary of Defense will urgently review the
military requirements for atomic weapons in the light of
the revisions in the military program; and (3) the Atomic
Energy Commission will recommend revisions in its expansion
program in the light of any changes in military require-
ments resulting from (2) above (NSC Action No. 768-f).
Current Status: Awaiting reports from the Secretary of
Defense and the Atomic Energy Commission pursuant to NSC
Action No. 768-f.

Origin: A report by the NSC Planning Board on the subject

on June 4 1953 and it was agreed that in view of the
adverse effects on national security interests in Latin
America of the proposed anti-trust proceedings; (a) The
proposed anti-trust proceedings should be postponed,
without prejudice to the Government for one year, and
(b) The Attorney General should be directed to negotiate
with the company, as a matter of urgency, for the elimina-
tion of practices deemed to be inconsistent with U.S.
anti-trust laws, reporting back to the NSC on the results
of the negotiations (NSC Action No. 805).
Current Status: Awaiting report from the Attorney General
on the results of the above mentioned negotiations.
