HOSTAGES IN IRAN
Carter reveals details
about rescue of six
A small documentary film compa.;
ny, financed by the CIA. helped six
Americans escape from Iran during
the hostage crisis early in 1980, for-
mer President Jimmy Carter said in
an Interview published yesterday.
The film company 'orchestrated
the escape of the Americans in the
(Canadian( Embassy.' Mr. Carter
said in an Interview published in yes-
terday's combined editions of The
Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta
Constitution.
After Iranians stormed the U.S.
Embassy in Tehran In 1979. six em-
bassy employees hid at the Canadian
Embassy. Officials, concerned about
the safety of the 52 hostages being.
held in Tehran, said little at the time
about how the six escaped from Iran.
Mr. Carter said the company,
which he did not name, was able to
operate undetected because Iranian
leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini
wanted as much publicity as possible
about his revolution.
