13. Utilization and preaent occupation of the baae
The Braeg air baae io at preaent utilized by the Soviet air oorpe.
a. Materiel: On 2 February 1949 there were 60 YAK 3 fi~bdere, 60
trainer
TAI 9 fighters, about 20 1 2 (3) light bombers, and 10/biplanes stationed
at the field.
b. Men
1. At the baae: the garrison oonniete of only 50 offioera
and about 250 men, because of the deatruotion of the huildinga.
2. In the town of Brseg: three kilometers away, in the block
of barracks eornprieing 18 buildings, located on Zyromekiego ~itroet, there
are Ito 4500 men and 200 officers belonging to the air force.
Opposite the barraoke there is an important air ? oomroand4 pad',
large residence (see report 241.727).

Boundaries
The field is bounded on the north by the boueer and gardene of the
town of Nowawiee and by the Nowawies - WaWelno road f on the south by a
pine forest (Forst Tillou.te), through which rune the Opole M Nyea railroad;
on the east by the forest and a dirt road running south from Noaawiee;
on the Meat by the foreet and a em!+11 road linking Nowcwiee with the
highway. Thin road, whioh has no ehouldere or ditohea, rune aoroes the
field.

A. Dietant obstacles
The region around Opole is level and open except in the area to the
south of the field, which is wooded and elightly rolling; but these hills
are of negligible height so far as flying ie oanoerned.

1. Three large hangars in perfect condition at the southern end of
the field (see sketch, ill, H2, H3).
2. Behind these hangars there are 10 i wooden camp barracks able
to house 1000 men (net sketch, BO 1 to BO 10).
3. At the soutbeietern and southwestern oorner? of he field there
are two two~etory brick buildings (see sketch, Bl and B2). Building B1
is used as a workshop, butiding B 2 as an offioera' billet and mess.
14. At the southern edge, bar the forest, there are two warehouses
(see aketoh, BM 1 and 8M 2).

town and the number of fighters and light bothere at the field ;about
