USSR WEATHER AND CROP REPORTS 2 June -T suly 1951 On 28 and 29 June, clear hot weather continued in most of the European USSR. Warm cloudy weather with showers and thunderstorms was observed in the western and northwestern regions,. Rain also fell in some areas of the Kaxelo- Finnish SSR, Arkhangel'ek Oblast, and Komi ASSR. The hot dry weather is promoting the rapid growth of agricultural crops. According to reports Yrom northern Kharkov and southern Kursk oblasts, winter rye has reached the waxy stage there. Winter rye has reached the milky stage around Kaluga; it has begun to bloom in northern Vologda Oblast. Because of favorable weather conditions, the harvest of winter grains is in progress in the central and southern Ukraine and in the North Caucasus. Cool cloudy weather with rain continues in most oY West Siberia and in northern and ea.atern Kazakhstan. Quite heavy rains (more than 4 millimeters dur- ing-the 24-hour period) Yell in some areas in Omsk, Tyumen', and Novosibirsk obiasts. On 1 July, cloudy weather with rain was observed in most of the European USSR. In the western ead central regions, Volga region, and Ukraine, the rain consisted oY showers and local thunderstorms. On 2 July, noon temperatures were 15 degrees in Petrozavodsk, 16 in Vologda and Moscow, 17 in Velikiye Luki, Minsk, Orel, and Tambov, 18 in Kirov, Riga, Lvov; Kiev, and Kursk, 19 in Voronezh, 20 in Gor'kiy, 21 is Kishinev and Odessa, 22 in Dnepropetrovsk and Voroshilovgrad, 23 in Simferopol', 24 is Rostov-on-Don and Ufa, 25 in Nal'chik, 26 in Stalingrad and Ysasnodax, 27 in Sverdlovsk and Yerevan, 28 in Ssratov, 30 in Chkalov, and 31 in Kuybyshev. Rain fell in Omsk, Tomsk, and Novo- sibirsk oblasts and in Krasnoyarsk Kray. The hot dry weather is promoting the rapid growth of agricultural crops. Winter wheat has entered the waxy stage in the so~rthern Ukraine. and southern Saratov and Voronezh oblasts. Because of favorable weather conditions, the harvest of winter grains is being completed in Krasnodar and Stavropol' kraysJ the Crimea, and in Izmail' and Ddessa oblasts. Winter rye is blooming in Siberia. It is entering the milky stage in pltay Kray and southern Novosibirsk Oblast. 5 JAY 1951 On 3 July, cloudy weather with rain was observed in most of the European USSR: In the Ukraine, Crimea, and North Caucasus, slightly cloudy weather without precipitation prevailed. During the first 12 hours of b July, rain fell only in Kiev and Zhitomir oblasts and in the northwestern European USSR. On 4 July, noon temperatures were 12 degrees in Kirov, 13 in Velikiye Luki, 14 in Syktyvkar, 15 in Leningrad, Riga, and Minsk, 17 in Vologda and Kazan', 18 in Sverdlovsk, Ufa, Gor'kiy, and Moscow, 19 in Lvov, 2C in Arkh- angelsk, Orel, Saratov, Kurak,~and Kiev, 21 in Chkalov and Kuybyshev, 22 in Tambov, Voronezh, and Na1'chik, 2~+ in Kishinev and Makhachkala, 25 in Krasno- dar, 26 in Dnepropetrovsk, Voroshilovgrad, Stalingrad, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol', and Odessa, and 29 in Yerevan. Hot and mostly dry weather prevailed in West Siberia, KazakY,atah, and Central Asia Spring wheat has reached the wary stage in the extreme southern Ukraine, North Caucasus, and southern Rostov and Stalingrad oblasts. In most of the Ukraine, it is in the milky stage Spring wheat is blooming or heading in Belorussia, in many areas of the central regions, and in the Tatar and Bashkir ASSR.
