The population in May 1950 was 1,361,215. At the end of June 1950, this total was increased by 130,000 persona working in offices, military units, schools, enterprises, and factories; some 50,000 transients; 50,000 hei-den ~unregie- tered persons7; and 262 foreigners. A breakdown of the foreign population shows that there are 55 mission- aries, 40 teachers, 16 doctors, 9 nurses, 14 students, 11 former diplomats, 6 workers, 3 engineers, 21 merchants, 16 unemployed workers, 29 women, and 42 children. The foreigners include 50 US, 50 UK, and 7 USSR citizens.
