a. The Wal E infrared tr sitter was returned with
two suggestion for it roving it: (1) E1i me the 601V(120'.1)
hum; emd, (2) Reduce the noise picked up from walking, etc.
b. The hum was proved to be originating from the
filment and a anu aber of methods were considered to acc oliah
the DC power. By straightforward rectifying mid filtering, one
can obtein the DC; however, the volteZe drop through the
rectifiers when starting with only 1.5 volts would be about
.5 volts, which c not be tolerated. Another tap on the secondary
eight be used but none exists. Rewinding the tranagor r was
considorod but time c?a ming emd expensive. By using a doubler
circuit, then rectifying and filtering, the proper voltage can
be obtained. This indicates doubling the current flow in the
secondary. A cul.ck look at the tre for r specifications indicated that
no dam_rup would result from doubling or indeed trebling the went.
A combination then of a doubler with 2 filter condensers d a choke
was tried. Hum w not audible. Selecting the proper components
for life a~ad configuration, and obtaining thew in addition to actually
placing them in the power supply r molno to be accomplished.
Thin will necessitate the power supply being larger (1-2 inches
deeper).
C. The eanoying voice trs fitted was checked on. V9hemm
the unit was used without tho optical head, the noise level dropped
to an accctable level. This indicates a modified response curve
iared.-or that the optical head (i.e., gelvono ter) is acting

as a coving coil microphone. The latter is not probable as the
galvon ter is fluid wed and otherwise designed to operate
under vibrating notions. The modified response curve will present
no perticuler problems. The modifying aud the overall result will
be investigated further.
d. Model C - The model C miniature infrared co ,cator was
not returned; however, 10 des were discussed followga
(1) The units should incorporate the more eeneitiive
galvanometer which will provide l modulation rather than the
precept 90. This is pled and will be acco plashed.
(2) The percentage modulation indicator will be
incorporated with detente on the sliding window cover.
(3) The Captive serene for securing the cbae io to the
cover will use flat "C" rings. The cover will be steel reinforced
at these points.
(4) The battery contact problem ie unresolved. The center
tap wire will be changed - perhaps a firing pin type contact will
be the answer.
(5) The lighting system was discussed. Flip up type sights
would necessitate two (front and rear) that would not be flush with
the case. Ruggedness would be adversely affected and repeating
the position would be difficult. No sight of a coperable size
e d ruggedness has been devised. The sight is unted to the
case and not the optical chassis and would therefore require
frequent colli ation to attain a better accuracy than that of
the current type even if a different type were used. In practice
,
no great difficulty been experienced in finding the other t
one
at ranges out to .55 miles; therefore, it wee not rec
cn,
eaded
that the sights be changed.
(6) It use suggested that a pod of a cast type (similar
to the Ger one) but with larger Jaws be obtained. The weak
construction of the East--tno Kodak offering mesa its use undesirable.
(7) An internal light leak (optical feedback) which was
apperent in the two prototype "C" models, and was hastily cured
by black rubber shields, will be corrected in a more professional
Ramer.
(8) The glass fabric and plastic insulation sheet will be
modified to cover the lento base (which is more prone to shorting
thom r co onent currently insulated).

(9) The .crophone cable connectoro will be chmgcd to a
locIdag type. (Smaller and more rugged if posoible. )
(10) The lens cap will be of the double type, molded of
Teflon and attached tD the front sur4'nce (to prevent its loss) .
e. The other contracts were reviewed. No prog ?ess ha been
made since the move- h(wever, no time extensions are cunt lated at
re requested that he be per itted to visit
in W& hington, to which no final answer w& given.
