The Ministry of Agriculture reports that the weekly volume of rain-
fall is between 15 and 20 liters per square kilometer in northwestern and
southeastern Bulgaria, 25 to 40 liters in the Danubian tablelands, 15 to 25
in the Dobrudzha and the Thracian tablelands, and 5 to 10 liters in south-
western Bulgaria. The heaviest rainfalls have been noted in Svishtov with
53 liters per square kilometer, in Gabrovo with 53, in Sredets with 51, and
in Sevlievo with 48 liters.
The rainfalls have had a very favorable effect on sowing. Fall and
spring sowings are in very good condition, and barley, wheat, and rye are
beginning to form ears. Rice sowing and some local tobacco planting have
been started.

day, with light local showers throughout,,western and central Bulgaria. De-
creasing cloudiness in the afternoon, grdotest in the northeastern part of
the country. Moderate northeast winds, growing stronger in the Black Sea
area. Minimum temperature 10-14 degrees, maximum 16-22.
10 May 1950. During the night decreasing cloudiness in eastern Bulgaria
and the Danube valley, some cloudiness and light showers in western Bulgaria
and the Thracian plain. Partial and variable cloudiness during the day in
western Bulgaria, with light showers in the plain areas during the afternoon.
Low to moderate southeast winds. Minimum temperature 7-10 degrees in the
Dobrudzha, 10-13 in other areas. Maximum temperature 16-20 degrees in
southeastern Bulgaria, 21-25 in other areas.

11. May 1950. During the night clear weather in eastern Bulgaria and
decreasing cloudiness in the western part. Minimum temperatures 5-8 degrees
in the northeast and the lowlands, 8-12 in other areas. During the day par-
+iai and variable cloudiness in most parts of the country, greatest in west-
ern Bulgaria. Low to moderate east winds. Maximum temperatures 8-12 degrees
in the Dobrudzha and on the Black Sea coast, 22-27 in other areas.
12 May 1950. During the night decreasing cloudiness, completely clear-
ing up in eastern Bulgaria. During the day intermittent, variable cloudiness,
considerable in the afternoon throughout the western part of the country.
Light to moderate easterly winds. Lowest temperature 3-7 degrees in the low-
lands, 8-12 for the rest of the country; highest 17-20 in the Black Sea area,
20-23 for the rest of the country.
1.4 May 1950. During the day intermittent, variable cloudiness, consid-
erable in the afternoon, with showers over the lowlands. Light, variable
winds. Highest temperature 15-18 degrees in the Sofia area and northeastern
Bulgaria, 18-22 throughout the rest of the country.
16 May 1950. Intermittent, variable cloudiness for most of the country,
becoming considerable in the afternoon, with local showers mostly in the low-
lands. Light westerly winds, becoming moderate at midday. Low temperature
8-12 degrees, high 20-25.
17 May 1950. During the night decreasing cloudiness, clearing locally.
lowest temperature 5-10 degrees. During the day sunny, with rising cloudi-
ness becoming heavier in the afternoon, mostly over the lowlands. Light
winds. Highest temperature 23-28 degrees.
18 May 1950. Local showers by nightfall, followed by decreasing cloudi-
ness, clearing locally. During the day continued, considerable cloudiness,
with showers in the afternoon, mostly over northeastern Bulgaria, accompanied
by scattered thunderstorms and temporary strong winds. Lowest temperature
6-11 degrees, highest 22-25 in northern Bulgaria and up to 28 in the southern
part of the country.
19 May 1950. During the night decreasing cloudiness over most of the
country, except the Black-Sea area, clearing locally. Lowest temperature
8-14 degrees. By noon considerable cloudiness over the lowlands, scattered
showers after noon, mostly over the central Stara Planina region, accompanied
by temporary strong winds. Highest temperature 24-28 degrees, and up to 22
in the Black Sea area.
