The instrument is for use in micro experiments requiring constant changes in degree of magnification. An adjuster makes it possible to vary the magnification from four power to 1(Y^ power without time-consuming change of lenses. A strong floodlight is used to illuminate the subjects. The operating distance is 100 millimeters for all degrees of magnification. The Zeiss plant has also produced valuable attachments for the Zeiss- Pulfrich photometer, one of which is a combination opacity and fluorescence meter which makes it possible to make nephelometric determinations on col- loid solutions, to observe and measure opacity reactions over a period of time, to make fluorometric determinations of concentration, and to measure the fluorescence of liquids. Another interesting development is the Zeiss flame photometer, a photo- electric instrument used by agricultural specialists to determine the press ence and concentration of potassium, calcium, and sodium. Its advantages over chemical analysis are the speed of determination and the very small amount of substance required. Concentrations of one milligram per liter can be measured with this instrument. The people-owned Filmosto Projector Plant has produced a new and im- proved enlarger for miniature films, Autofoc II. It has an autonv tic fo- cusing device and additional. possibilities for manual focusing when the lens mounting and lamp box are moved. The instrument can be used for 24 x 36- millimeter to it x 4-centimeter film. The plant, located in Berlin-Weissensee, produces radios and radio tubes, as well as machines for the manufacture of tubes and electric-light bulbs. In the future, Phonetika will also manufacture transmitter and vacuum tubes. Production of primary receivers will be increased.
