8. Corn and wheat were raised in the areas surrounding Oaliche and were shipped
to Oryakhovo and south to Byala Matins. There were mall Warehouses scattered
throughout Gauche which were used for storage of these products.
9. The town had one church. It was located in the center of the town and called
St Troitsa Orthodox church. It was built of brick. i
10. Most of the homes in Gauche were constructed of brick 'lfi

four to five rooms. The homes were heated average use trod
by wood. Pater for cooking and
washing wars obtained from outside ester hydrants which were scattered throughout'
the town in addition to three large public veils. One large well was in the
park In the canter of the, town, another well rsa east of the town, and the
third was south of Oalicl-,.
11. Most of the hoses had their UC?s outside and had no bathrooms. The refuse, in-
eluding the garbage, was hauled out of town by horse and wagon. Home owners
also fed their garbage to the cows, horses, pigs, rabbits or used it for
fertiliser- The average home owner owned a team of horses, one or two cords, a
few sheep and soya chickens.
12. The gymnasium school way the largest building in Gauche. It was a three-
story brick building add it was loeat -1 east of the town. Adjacent to this
building there we a small building used as a library. Another small gysnasium
was located north of the town and a third we located south of the town. It
was sassing for a town of this also to have three such schools.
13- Until 1943, Galicha did not have any electricity. electricity for the hoses,
buildings and offices in town came frail Maesha and Byala $latioa villages bcth
situated south of Oaliche.
A. The area surrounding Oaliche was hilly. south of Gauche near mezha the area
ru densely wooded, prlaarily with large oak trees. Another heavily Wc'oded
section, about 10 kilossters across we located northwest of Guliche in the
direction of Lignites. A third forested area was located vest of Gauche.
Most of the timber cut in these forests we used locally.
15. It is possible to hide in these forested areas and survive on auahroosa, wild
berries, Moes, Wild apples, plus and nuts. Rabbits, hares, foxes, and wolves
usually can be Bond in these forests.
16. The Skit River was about 500 meters west from the center of Oaliche and flowed

same places and In other places two to three eaters deep.

fines the river bemiks. About 500 senors west of the center of the town and on
