The factory produces spectacle lenses, field glasses, night glasses, telescopes, sextants, microscopes, special lenses, searcFJ.ight lenses, projectors, lenses for film projectors, camera lenses, and optical in- struments for medical purposes. 3. Spectacle lenses in about 700 different grindings are now being produced as compared with 90,000 differently ground types of lenses which could be produced before 1945. The present capacity is about 1,000 lenses a day. Because of a shortage of machines, the factory is unable to handle the present demands for prescription lenses. A Soviet control officer specially appointed to the plant is particularly interested in the production of field classes which are at present in great demand for use by customs officials and the Volkspolizei. The production of those, however, is insufficient to satisfy requirements because of a shortage of machinery. The lenses and prisms used in the field glasses are of excellent quality, but the natal available for the. casings is not satisfactory, 5. All camera lenses go to the USSR, or are exported elsewhere. 6. The factory at present employs 10, 000 men although a larger number was employed before the war. About 80 per cent of the pre-1945 machinery is now being used, and new machines are badly rceeded. CO ,TNTIAL CLASSIFICATION SECS T/G6NT L - U.S me Change In Class.
