On 26 and 27 August, cloudy weather with rain prevailed in the southern and
central areas of the European USSR.
On 27 August, noon temperatures were 18 degrees in Minsk, Orel, and Petro-
zavodsk, 20 in Kursk, 21 in Voronezh and Tambov, 22 in Moscow, Ufa, and Chkalov,
23 in Vologda and Kirov, 24 in Kiev and Stalingrad, 25 in Rostov on the Don and

On 28 August, cloudy weather with considerable rain prevailed in the central
areas of the European USSR and in Belorussia.
During the first 12 hours of 29 August, rain fell in Ryazan', Voronezh, and
Tambov oblasts and in the eastern Ukraine. In the rest of the European USSR,
mostly slightly cloudy and dry weather continued.
On 29 August, noon temperatures were 19 degrees in Syktyvkar, 20 in Moscow,
Minsk, and Voronezh, 21 in Leningrad, Orel, and Riga, 22 in Tambov, Kursk, and
Kiev, 25 in Gor'kiy and Kishinev, 26 in Kirov, Krasnodar, and Dnepropetrovsk,
28 in Saratov and Rostov on the Don, and 29 in Kuybyshev and Simferopol'.
Sowing of winter crops has begun under favorable weather conditions in Mol-
,:avia and the western Ukraine.
Cloudy, comparatively cool weather was observed in most of West Siberia.
Light rain fell locally.
