This machine ca~mpletelq mechanizes the har- vesting of root crops and the preparation of fodder oa animal husbandry farms. The combine has been approved for aeries production. PRODUCffi IMPROVED TRACTOR PLOW -- Moscow, Izvestiya, 28 Dec 50 The Altay Agricultural-Machine Building Pleat has begun produc:tioa of a new five-bottam~ tractor plow. An improvement over the old model, it con- sists of more than 40 djifereat unite, same of them automatic. The plow 3s intended for heavy soils and can cut to a depth of 28 centimeters. The Akmoliask Kazakhsel?:~ash Plant has seat out its first group of new machines designed to break up the ice on winter pasture fields. A machine of this type can process 65 hectares per day. DESIGN NEW' CO'1"TOB-PICKIliG, CLEAHIIiG MACHII~3 -- Moscow, Pravda, 1 Jan 57- The State Special Design Bureau has designed a number of new high-duty machines with a view toward furthering the mechanization of cotton-grotring operations. A group of engineers, headed by Stalin Prize winner M. N. Markov, has modernized the BShM-48M cotton picker, which is now ~F10 kilo- grams lighter than the old model. K. Knznetsov, has designed a three-row cotton-picking machine Por non- irrigated regions, which is to be put into aeries production. They have also designed a six-row cotton picker Por harvesting unopened "kurak" cotton pods. A number of engineers, headed by V~ I.?Gorbunov, has designed a machine Por picking "gaze-pay" cotton. A new machine Por prelimiTlAry cleaning of raw cotton is ready Por series production. It is twice as productive ea the KhChO-43 cotton cleaner and leaves a minimum oP impurities, making it possible to stuff the cotton aechani- cally into sacks imatediately after cleaning. In addition, the bureau has designed new earth-digging machines for the new irrigation project, which have already gone into production. Agronomist F. P. Kovyryalov, oP the Issyk-Kul'sk Oblast Administration oP Agriculture, bas designed a new grain-cleaning machine which is consider- ably superior to the well-known VIM-2 grain-cleaning aggregate. It cleans and aorta the grain simultaneously. Its productivity is 2 tone of grain per hour. The machine has been tested over a period oP 4 years in the Issyk-Kul'- skiy Rayon, and bas shown satisfactory performance. K. A. Vatalkina, a senior associate of the Ukrainian Scientific Re- search Institute Por Cotton Growing, has proposed a new way of immunizing cotton need against the "gommoza" disease. The method, kaoWa as the gas- heat treatment process, consists of treating the seed with hot formalia vapors, which not only make the seed immune but also improve its sowing qualities. A continuous-motion mechanism for the production of hot gases has been designed by Engineer P. I. Pchel?nikov of the Tashkent office oP the Glav- khlopkoproyekt (Main Administration of Cotton Planning). It can process 2 tons of seed per hour. Recently, the Pyatigorsk Iron-Casting Pleat of the Gormestpramnkambinat (City Local Industry Combine) produced an experimental model of thin machine, the first of its kind in the USSR. The auta?atic welding method devised by Academician Ye. 0. Paton, which. involves the application oP a layer oP Plux, is widely employed when the r.. seams to be welded are straight or circular and when they have considerable length. However, in agricultural-machine building it is difficult to apply this method,. since the seams'ia the ma3ority oP cases are short and occur in complex configurations. In this connection, the Rostov Agriciiltural-Machine Building Plant has devised a new method oP automatic welding. All the seams are placed length- wise, and special, maneuverable welding equipment is employed. This method applied to the welding of parts oP the se1P-propelled mover has speeded up production Prom 3.5-4 meters per hour to 40 meters per hour.
