Before early November 1951 the Kwax ung Kwangsi, Central Kwangtung,
Kwangtung 'ukien, and Hunan-Kiangsi (sic) Columns of Kwangtung were
disbanded and all the troops from these areas were assigned to the ten
public security divisions in Kwangtung. In mid-November each of these
divisions had three regiments and each regiment had 1,200 troops. The
Kwangtung Public Security Bureau also had a number of public security
columns. All of these troops were under the direct control of TIAN
Chong min ( .. 1 , ), director of the public security office in Kwang-
tung. In mid-November TSENG Shang, former commander of the Kwangtung-
Kwangsi Column, was only in command of an artillery regiment of a pub-
lic security division which was at Shihch? i (113-22, 22-30).
