The construction of the 600"-meter-long blooming mill of the Zenica
Metallurgical Combine.. n at thtN end of June 1950. The laying of the
concrete foundations ispectdtb take place at the beginning of August...
The iron skeleton of the mill will be set up by the "Djuro Djakovic"
Enterprise. The mill-will be able to roll ingots weighing up to 5 tons.
The ingots will be supplied by the large new steel mill, in which
three 60-ton Siemens-Martin furnaces are operating. A fourth 60-ton fur-
nace and two 100-ton furnaces will be added to the mill in the near future.
The, large new 60-meter-high blast furnace will have a capacity of
700 tons per day. Its capacity will be almost five times as great as that
of the blast furnace in Sisak, built last year.

CONSTRUCTION OF ZENICA COMBINE PROGRESSING -- Ljubljana Slovenski Poroce-

The installation of the main shop of the forging department in the
Zenica combine has been finished. The fourth section of the steel mill,
which will house the fourth Siemens-Martin furnace, and all the install-
ations for the third converter were completed recently.
A storehouse for scrap iron is being built next to the steel mill.
GUSTANJ IRONWORKS EXPAND -- Ljubljana Slovenski Porocevalec, 28 Jul 50
The first generator in the powerhouse of the Gustanj Ironworks began
operation on 24 July 1950.

The forging shop will be equipped soon irith a 600-ton-hydraulic-press,
which will begin operation in February 1951. In the shaping department,
350- to 500-kilogram steam and pressure hammers are being installed.
In the new steel mill, which, is located near the old steel mill, the
shaping department; and the administrative office, a new high-frequency
ele'ctricfurnace.will begin operation by the end of November. This is the
first furnace of its kind in Yugoslavia.
About 1,200 tons of steel construction members for the shop of the
steel mill have arrived from the "Djuro Djakovic" Enterprise and have been
set up. This framework constitutes only half of the large shop. When
the construction of the second half begins, the present administration
building will have to'be torn down.
PRODUCES STEEL PARTS FOR SHIPS -- Ljubljana Slovenski Porocevalec, 22 Jul 50
The steel foundry in Gustanj recently cast the first 10-ton ship parts
for the "UlJanik" Shipyard in Pula, which is building three coastal pas_
senger ships. Such parts were imported previously.
LEAD MINE TO BEGIN PRODUCTION -- Ljubljana Slovenski Porocevalec, 29 Jul 50
In the beginning of August, lead mining will begin in the new Mazic
lead mine, which is a part of the Trepca mine. According to the Five-Year
Plan, the mine was scheduled to begin operation on 1 September 1950. The
new mine is located 2.5 kilometers from Stari Trg, which is the center of
the Trepca Mine. A 220-meter cableway connects the Mazic mine with Stari
Trg. From there the ore will be shipped by the main cableway of the Trepca
mine to the smelter in Zvecan.
TO MAKE PENCIL LEADS OF DOMESTIC GRAPHITE -- LJubljana Slovenski Porocevalec,
15 Jul 50
Recently workers of the Serbian Institute for Scientific Research have
mastered a method of processing domestic graphite, from which pencil leads
will be manuNactured soon. The special graphitefor pencil?-]eads is dug in Serbia`.
The experiments on the production of graphite pans for casting will be
completed in the institute soon.
