CIA's Webster agrees

WASHINGTON-CIA Director-designate
William Weeb.ster has reluctantly agreed to re-
view1he 7enate testimony of CIA Deputy Di-
rector-Robert Gates on the Iran-contra affair
to-determine -%fiEe- e?rr Gates should remain in
the CIA. The request, came from a Senate.
Intelligence Committee member, Sen. Arlen
Specter [R., Pa.], during a hearing Thursday
on Webster's nomination as CIA director.
Specter asked Webster, who is FBI director,
whether he thinks Gates should step down in
light of the fact that he helped then-CIA Di-
rector William Casey prepare what many in
Congress say was Casey's misleading testimo-
ny to the committee last November.
