Over 85 percent of the workers belong to the unions, The exact number is difficu]t to ascertain but a partial list dated 1 July 1951 is given for members in industry, government and transportation. Figures for certain wo~ewodstwoa are also given. The Federation of Trade Unions in Poland centralizes all the unionay, and the CRZL (Central Council of Trade Unions) constitutes ita executive authority. The organization and functions of the Wo,jewodztwo Councils of Trade Unions, the Powiat Councils and the Municipal Councils are described. 2. The Unions are to be the connecting link between the government and the workers and perform the following functions: a) control and increase work production, b) organize competitive movements, c) supervise the execution of production plane, d) train women, e) combat abaentism and idleness, anal f) combat the reactionary elements, yr via4 i V11~11 {i10.F,LC tAt11Vlli3, !.lle history of the workers union of the Military Administration. 1. The Central Federation of Trade Unions in Poland, a member of the WFTU, has a general council controlled by Alexander Zawadaki its president who keeps in contact with Moscow. The orders issued by the Central Council of the Trade Unions in the USSR are carried out in the Polish Trade Unions. Zn addition, the Polish Trade Unions have to give material aid to the Trade Unions in the Capitalist countries and in the colonies, fight conservatives in trade unions, and help create and develop the WFTiJ trade unions. 2. ,'The workers in the same industry belong to unions in those industries. All infractions of labor disciple are handled by the unions as follows: a) admonition for first offense, b) reprimand, c) suspension of the workers' privileges for 3 months, and d) expulsion from the union. The assembly of the workers theoretically governs the union but actually the factory council does. Most union positions are held lay UB members.. 3. The workers' union of the Military Administration has undergone various changes from 1946-1950 (in 191+6 there were 17,000 members but after various purges by 1950 them wer 14 00 e ,3 members.
