Tientsin on 30 September on the SS HAN YANG. Un 28 September the xiuland
Company shipped another case of 10 sets of operating instruments.
2. On 21 September 1951 L.I Chen-man (4A tk.~) of the Chu losing Trading Ccan=
pany, 56 Des Voeux Road, asked L. C. CHO'' to obtain HK V1,800,000 worth of
insurance for 1,500 tons of rubber sheets Id had aboard the Polish vessel
:ICKlEVICZ2. LI had already covered part of the shipment for 10,000,000
rupeos in Ceylon. The New Zealand Insurance Company, when approached by
Ci0;3, refused because it had already covered BKc2O,000,000 worth of the
cargo. The 21 percent war risk charge demanded by Lloyds of London was
considered too high. Eventually the king An Insurance Company,, Hong Longo
covered the shipment.
3. On 17 September Peter TONG was assigned the confidential job of com munioation
with people in Macao for whom he was purchasing broadcasting equipment as
well as other goods.? On 27 September TONG went to Macao, carrying letters
from K. C. GLOW. J. S. TSAO and K,. C. 3LOW had wished to go to Laoao for the
last week of September but were unable to obtain permits and sent TONG in
their place, since he, as a Cantonese, requires no permit 0? 25X1X
4. On 26 September CHUM G Chen-chih4 returned from Japan on the EASTEXN TKaDi;R0
5. In late September .etoo officials were afraid that the crew of the EASTEk
VEKTURJ, then in Surabaya, would t,o on strike if the Newland Steamship
Company (N ulanco) could not arrange to increase their wages. The EASTEEV
VEdTtiRE is due for overhauling in December 1951 and Nulanco has decided to
buy a ship in order to avoid financial loss. On 24 September the directors
of awctco decided to reauce iulaaoo's transportation department by the
uisaharge of two tallymen, effective 1 October.
6. In late September iietoo learned that Lucy LLUG proposed to order some
strategic materials from Poland or Switzerland for direct shipment to China,,
