4. Cord Meyer reports that Alexis Johnson has agreed to
speak at the West European Advisory Committee (WEAC) at Brussels
next week.
The WEAC was established in 1959 to help the Free
Europe Committee. It is made up of 13 political and intellectual
leaders from 9 West European nations and advises the FEC on
European aspects of East-West problems.
5. I have a memo from Security which tells you that three
candidates for pilots in our U-2 program have been approved by
the usual special panel which evaluates all available medical,
psychological and security info concerning the candidates. Going
back to the days of General Cabell, Security was required to inform
the DDCI of all such pilot hirings. Do you want to continue this
practise or is it OK for Security and DD/S&T to handle the matter
between themselves.?
