The personnel of the new unit has promised to apply Soviet methods of
disease prevention and treatment and to eee that the sick get well in the
shortest possible time to resume their work. The name of the new polyclinic
is 21 Decembrie.
Stressing the concern of the party for the welfare of the working peo-
ple, Alexandra Custescu, president of the executive committee of the people's
council of Bacau Regiune, stated that two new hospitals for adults, as well
ae 23 disper:.~ariea for rural sections and nine communal dispensaries were
built in the last 2 years in that regiune. Two children's hospitals, 2 poly-
clinics, 10 dispensaries for children, 100 milk centers, and 147 dietary

BRANCOVENESC HOSPITAL, "LENIN" RAIUN -- Bucharest, Vista Capitalei, 12 Nov 52
Brancovenesc Hospital services "Lenin" Raion. It has under its super-
vision a main polyclinic and three affiliated polyclinics. In all, the hos-
pital supervises 2j health zones, which in turn have 21 medical offices for
enterprises.
This situation was not incidental. Soviet medicine and experience was
of priceless assistance. Nor has the administrative and teaching angle been
neglected. The establishment of an urgency pls.n made possible the training
of new personnel at the four university clinics. Simultaneously with the
rebuilding of the polyclinics and maternity wards, the interior of the hos-
pital was renovated. Subsequently, it was provided with the newest equip-
ment:
Work did not atop at that, however. The entire staff of the hospital
showed great enthusiasm and did outstanding work in the embellishment and
equipment of this institution. The three gardens s:rrounding the buildings
of the hospital were planted and landscaped through voluntar;? work, the
waiting rooms decorated with fresh flowers, the library provided with thou-
sands of books, and radio sets installed everywhere. The same is true of
the polyclinics under the supervision of the hospital, located in Strada
Veseliei and Strada Soldat Candea, the children's clubs and homes, and also
the ice factory which is needed for treatments.
The voluntary contributions made by factories and plants in this raiin
should be stressed. Outstanding among them were Vulcan, ICAR (Institutul
de Cercetari Agronomics, Institute of Agronomy Research), Frigul, Frigotech-
nica, and IREB (Intreprinderile Regicnale Electrice din Bucuresti, Regional
Electric Enterprise of Bucharest). Through the creation of collectives, in-
cluding members of the UFDR (Uniunea Fe~ilor Democrats Romans, Union of
Democratic Rumanian Women), families, and patients, relations were greatly
improved. Patients' mail is being taken care of, and the families of the
sick are kept informed daily of the condition of their kin. A hcme-visiting
service was also set up. In addition, a sustained health-education program
for citizens, through posters, photographs, discussions, and lectures, is
held in the halls of the hospital.
Dr Dan Constantinescu and Drld>'haiIonescu are showing great enthusiasm
in their work, supervising the courses. i'~+o special courses, "Ready for
the Defense of fiealth" and the "School for the Mother", are given by lec-
turing physicians from the hospital.
