REPORT CD NO. DATE OF SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. LThis report presents data, from 1946 - 1953 sources, on the classification, characteristics, and utilization of USSR coals. The first part of the report includes tables on the classification of Donbass, Kuzbass, and Karaganda coals, from a Russian book on coal- cleaning principles. The second part consists of a table giving data from two sources, a German periodical and a Russian railroad ~.ictionary, on types of coal found in the various USSR coal regions and their subdivisions. The two sources differ considerably in their coverage, the former being more complete. The railroad dictionary, however, Gives geo- graphical locations of some Kuzbass enterprises and gives subdivi- sions of Moscow basin coal by sizes. Numbers in parentheses refer to appended sources' I. DONBASS, KUZBASS, AND.KARAGANDA COALS Bituminous coals of the Donbass are divided into six classes depending on their content of volatile substances, as is shown in the following table: 50X1-HUM 50X1-HUM Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/02/08: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700130482-1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/02/08: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700130482-1 Lean (toshchiy) T Less than 17 Does not 3.1-4.8 cake Steam-caking PS (parovichno- spekayuahchiysya) 12-18 Cakes slightly Free Hydro- ger.
