Kiev, Pravda Ukrainy, 11 Oct 53 Workers of the Kharkov Tractor Assembly Plant have promised to produce 1,000 above-plan KhTZ-7 row-crop tractors in 1953, and are preparing to pro- duce twice as many tractors in 1954 as they did in 1953. The plant has al- ready produced hundreds of above-plan tractors. Vil'nyus, Sovetskaya Litva, 24 Oct 53 The Kharkov Tractor Assembly Plant has fulfilled its 11-month plan for KhTZ-7 tractors one month and 8 days ahead of schedule. In 1953, the plant has already produced as many tractors as it did in all of 1952. Plant workers have already built 500 of the 1,000 above-plan tractors they promised to build in 1953? Production cost of the tractors is almost 3,500 rubles below the plan. Kiev, Pravda;Ukrainy, 25 Oct 53 The Khartkov Tractor Assembly Plant has built 414 of the 1,000 above-plan tractors promised for 1953. The plant is currently improving the design of the DT-54 tractor. The crankshaft and lower end of the connecting rod are being strengthened, an im- proved water pump is being used, the air filter is being improved, and the fuel equipment has been redesigned. In 1954, the cooling and lubricating systems of the tractor will be improved, and a more efficient starting motor, equipped with a muffler, will be used. The rear axle and clutch will be com- pletely redesigned. The plant is developing a diesel engine for the KhTZ-7 row-crop tractor. Experimental models of this engine are now being tested at the plant. The plant has made considerable progress in developing an electric crawler tractor, but many units of the tractor require further improvement. Planned 1954 output of KhTZ-7 tractors will be twice [the 1953 output] and 1955 output will be about four times [the 1953 output]. The expanded production program necessitates added industrial construction, including completion of the new machine assembly building No 3 and construction of housing, schools, hospitals, nurseries, and recreation facilities. Industrial construction is being held up by a shortage of metal, cement, lumber,:earth-moving machinery, and motor transport. Construction Trust No 86, headed by Lelichenko, has not fulfilled its plan for months. The Kharkov Tractor Plant has repeatedly informed Dygay, Minister of Construction USSR, and Fedorov, chief of Glavyugpromstroy (Main Administration for Industrial Con- struction in the South), of this situation, but no effective action has yet been taken. The Kharkov planning organizations, Giproavtotraktoroprom (State In- stitute for Planning Motor Vehicle and Tractor Industry Enterprises) and .Promstroyproyekt (Office of Planning Industrial Construction) have not yet supplied the plant with documents for several structures that will be put into use in 1954. Glavmetallosbyt (MaLn Administration for the Sale of Metals) is supplying the Kharkov plant with metal from the Magnitogorsk Combine and ether Ural plants. Even when these suppliers ship steel, brass, and copper rolled stock in time, the plant cannot be sure of a steady supply of metal. Meta]. should be supplied by metallurgical plants in the south, which are fully capable of filling the plant's orders. -- M. Pashin, director, Kharkov Tractor Plant imeni Ordzhonikidze Kiev, Pravda Ukrainy, 22 Oct 53 In 1948, the Kharkov Tractor Plant stopped receiving a state subsidy. In less than 5 years, the plant has saved the government about 67 million rubles above the plan. All plant shops and more than 250 production sections have been put on a cost-acco''nting basis. The plant has produced 3 1/2 mil- lion rubles' worth of above-plan spare parts in 1953. The plant has also in- creased the output of DT-54 tractors. The plant has saved 5 1/2 million rubles above the plan. MINSK PLANT PRODUCES BELARUS' TRACTOR -- Kiev, Pravda Ukrainy, 11 Oct 53 In the past 15 days, tractor shop No .. of the Minsk Tractor Plant has organized the production of approximately 200 type designations of parts for the Belarus' tractor. The first of these tractors are already being assembled on the 150-meter conveyer in the shop. Moscow, Komsomol'skaya Pravda, 17 Oct 53 The Minsk Tractor Plant is now turning out Belarus' and KT-12 tractors simultaneously from its two main conveyers. In preparation for the production of Belarus' tractors, the machine as- sembly building was rebuilt and re-equipped, and means of transportation was extended to it,, all in the course of a year. The transmission of the Belarus' is of a new design that makes it more wear resistant. -- P. Prokhorov, chief engineer, Minsk Tractor Plant Moscow, Trud, 18 Oct 53 The Minsk Tractor Plant, which recently started mass production of the Belarus' tractor after long delays, would have started output much sooner if the Gor'kiy Motor Vehicle Plant and the Kharkov and Lipetsk tractor plants had supplied parts on time. Minsk, Sovetskaya'Belorussiya, 6 Oct 53 The Minsk Tractor Plant has built hundreds of above-plan starting engines and shipped them to MIS and to the Rubtsovsk Altay Tractor Plant. Vil'nyus, Sovetskaya Litva, 16 Oct 53 The first Belarus' tractor,,which recently rolled off the assembly line of the Minsk Tractor Plant, bore plant serial No 000001. A third model of the Belarus', the MTZ-3, is being developed for use in cotton growing. Moscow, Byulleten' Stroitel'noy Tekhniki, No 17, Dec 53 At the Minsk Tractor Plant, the new.shop for producing Belarus' tractors was built and put into operation in 17 months (July 1952-October 1953). The oblast has received 164 DT-54 tractors since the beginning of 1953. DEVELOP NEW TRACTORS -- Tashkent, Pravda Vostoka, 4 Nov 53 Designers of the Stalingrad Tractor Plant are developing a new tractor that will be greatly superior to the DT-54 tractor that the plant is now pro- ducing. The new tractor will have a heated cab and will be designed primarily for use with mounted implements. -The technical project of the tractor will be submitted for ministry approval in December. Mosccw, Izvestiya, 5 Nov 53 The Stalingrad Tractor Plant is testing two new types of tractor, one for use on swampy land and the other for use on steep slopes. CRITICIZE?KDP-35 TRACTOR -- Kiev, Pravda Ukrainy,.11 Nov 53 The KDP-35 tractors produced by the Lipetsk Tractor Plant have a serious shortcoming -- on turns, the tracks spread apart and eventually come off, break- ing the pivot-shaft bearings. Sometimes the tracks fall off the sprocket wheels and it requires at least 2 hours to get them back on. One MTS solved this prob- lem by welding additional brackets to the track roller frames, and prevented the frames from separating by connecting them with a ball-and-socket joint.
