Ixtelier Case Reversal
SANTIAGO, Chile-The Su-
preme Court reversed a military
court's decision to dismiss the case
against 'three military officials ac-
cused in the-1976 assassination in
Washington of- exile- Orlando Lete-
lier_... .
-The high court said the military
court's investigation "does not clear-
ly establish the innocence of the ac-
cused and for that reason- the defin-
dismissal cannot proceed." The
high court said the earlier decision]
was temporary and not definitive,
meaning that the case against former
chief of Chilean -intelligence, Gen.
Manuel Contreras, and two other
intelligence officers could be re- j
opened. Washington sought the -ex-
tradition of Contreras and Army of-I
fivers Pedro Espinoza and Armando
Fernandez to stand trial on charges!
of conspiring to kill Letelier and his
assistant Ronni Moffit. The court's
ruling was issued in response to an
appeal by Letelier's sister, Fabiola
Letelier.
