Among others, the Sajo Bridge at Miskolc and the Hernad Bridge at Pere will be opened to traffic this year. To ease increased rail and highway traffic, so-called "death crossings" will be eliminated by the construction of overpasses. Work will be begun on four such overpasses this year. Modern methods are being employed in the construction of these bridges and the first aluminum and the first prefabricated ferroconcrete bridges will soon be completed. 1,378 BRIDGES RESTORED -- Budapest; Friss Ujsag, 5 Oct 50 During the course of the war, a total of 27,500 ltnear.meters of bridges were d.estroyed'.in Hungary. The 900-ton superstructure was completed by Hungarian Iron, Steel and Machinery. (MAVAG) workers in 90 days, one month ahead of the estimated date. On 1 October, a highway-railroad overpass was also dedicated at Nyekladhaz, 3 months ahead of schedule. It was built for 25,000 forints under the estimated cost. With the completiua of these two structures, there is a direct connection between the expanding industrial area of Borsod County and the new irrigation developments of the trans-Tisza region. SPEED RAIL TURNOVhl FOR BEET CROP -- Budapest, Vilagossag, 4 Oct 50 The Pecs office of the Hungarian National Railroad (MAV) has prepared for the successful collection of the sugar-beet crop by arranging undisturbed traffic for the two sugar factories in its area, at Ercsi and Kaposvar. The beats arrive at the factories on through-trains and the cars are speedily unloaded and returned within 24 hours, or at the most 48 hours. This is helping to reduce the national average of turnover time for freight cars. fir`?WAMAL Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/07/22 : CIA-RDP80-00809A000600360516-9
