The Gorlorffi Machine -Building Plant imeni Kirov turned out new sample
models cf 2-29 and GUK-1 mining combines which were designed by "Giprouglsmaeh"
of tha Ministry of Coal Industry, Western Regions, USSR. Experiments in the
mines brought favorable results. Serial production of these combines will,
begin eooa. The Plant imeni Kirov has also developed an original design for a
combine for use in steep coal seams.

The Machine-Building Plant imeni Kirer in Kopeyek, producer of mining
equipment, hae. constructed the first Soviet self-propelled excavator, the
ESh-1, haying a capacity of 250 cubic meters per hour. The excavator has
undergone successful plant taste and is now in oFeration at the No 3 - 4 open-
pit mine of the "Korkinugoll" Trust in the Chelyabinsk coal basin.
WATCH INDUSTRY GETS IPEW TOOLS -- Zarya Toetoka, No 190, 22 Sep 48
The first automatic and semiautoaeatic machine tools for the watch industry
have been produces in the laboratories of the Moscow Higher Technical School
imeni Bauman. The machine tools, designed by Prof G. A. Shausyan, Laureate of
a Stalin Prize, are very precise Jr. performance, and will mechanize the most
complex production proceesea. Experimental samples ffive been installed at the
First and Second Watch slants of Moscow. Those machine tools have doubled the
output of parts for "Pobeda" and "Salyut" watches, almost completely eliminated
waste, and reduced the need for skilled labor.

A new and powerful turbine has been completed at the Turbogenerator Plant
5meni Kirov for tho Krasnogorek Power Plant in the Jrale. The cylinder and

The main products of the "Gornyak" }achine-Building Plant in Kutaisi are
BTU-30 and Lenlnet? correyers anzt various other types of machinery. Serial
production of the Ak-?_ electric locomotives has recentlo begun.
The plant exceeded the 9-month plan by the end of August and its produc-
tion program is being expanded. The foundry has started production of cast-
iron bushings for the ChTZ tractor.
Plant designers have worked out aplam for a new, improved type of bucket
for the LSD-107 excavator. The new-type bucket was sent to the Ufa Construction
Administration ea.:ly in August for testing and was considered satisfactory.
FRTROZk40DSs PLANT GETS NLV BUILDINGS -- Leninskoye Znumya, No 190, 24 Sep 48
The new buildings of the Pstrozavodsk Metal Works house a mechanized as-
sembly shop, a foundry, a galvaniziug shop, a carpenter and model. shop, a
forge, and a tin-plating shop. Seventy percent of the machines have been set
up in the mechanized assembly sLop. These irclude lathes, grinding machines,
planix%g machines, and drills.
A blast furnace and two smelting furnaces for aluminum have been con-
otructed and put into operation in the foundry.
Assembly of equipment has been completed in the forge and the tin-plating
shop. A large 20-ton drawing press has been prepared and will be put into
operation in November.. Assembly of equipment in all shops will be completed
by 1 January 1949.
The plant will produce internal-combustion engines for fishing boats and
all types of ferrous and nonferrous castings. In July it will start production
of cast-iron furnace implements, hubs for cart wheels, and aluminum dishes.
Although the shops are not yet completely equipped, the plant has already
produced a million and a half rubles' worth of goods this year, while the 1948
plan calls for only 1,832,000 rubles' worth of goods.
HIGH-SPEED MBTAI CUTTING ADOPTED -- Kazakhstanskaya Pravda, No 191, 25 Sep 48
The lathe shop of the Petropavlovsk Plant imeni Molotov has adopted high-
speed metal machining. The cutting speed on one lathe has increased from 75
meters per minute to 280 meters per minute. Formerly a turner was able to tool
100 pieces during an 8 hour period; now he produces the same quantity in 34
hours. -

MARIUPOL' RAIL-ROLLING SHOP TO OPEN -- Pravda Ukrainy, No 221, 17 Sep 48

rolling shop. The rail mills, save for cutting metal; rolling-mill trains,

Serial production of high-speed windmills has been developed in the Ural
Machine Plant of the Ministry of State Farms, USSR. The weight of the motor
does not exceed 350 kilog:ema. This makes it possible to more the equipment
to distant points. It is not necesear; to have a special' foundation for this
aad to operate electrical machinery. This'fowerfal source of energy is called
"blue cal."

The Lyudinovo Steam Engine Plant in Ealuga Oblast has begun the prodve-
tion of Sk-125 stationary, industrial steam engines.
Workers of the biakinek Plant imeni Lenin have exceeded their plan for the
production of agricultural machinery parts. Recently they made three milling
machines which will be used at the plant in the production of piston rings.
