Bashkir ASSR, states that during the years of the Fine-Year Plans
and the war, Bashkir industry expanded to 28 times +.ts prererolu-
tionafiy size. Eighty-two heavy, and hundreds oP medium and light
industrial en:erpris~a have been set up.
The area of cultivated ground increased 79 percent, andyield
froo agriculture doubled. Seven million hectares aTe cultivated
each year by kolkhozes, which are served by 140 MTSa.
There are at present 300 motion picture nouaes, 114 radio
broadcasting and receiving units, and ?69 libraries. Twenty scien-
tific research in9titutions are in operation. There are about
10,000 speciallsts with higher education end about }1,000 with
secondary education. Bach year about 2,800,000 books are printed
in the Bashkir and Russian languages by the Bashkir State Publish-
ing E~us~.

Georgian SSR, was 106.2 percent oP the plan. Trade coaperative

series of other enterprises.

million rubles worth of goods more than in 1947 and accumulated

Anadyr' -- One year ago, nomad kalkhoz workers of the
"Turvaugin" Artel, Markovskiy Rnyun, Chukot Nstional Okrug, decided
to guild a permanent settlement at the foot oP the Stogonov volcano
on she upper part of the Anadyr' River. A construction brigade,
headed by the chairman oP the kolkhoa, built an bntire village..
It is situated along the shore of the river end contains a school
building, a medical center, a store, two warehouaea, and four 2-
