The Granitoid group of cement factories located in the village of Baranovei south of Pernik, normally produce 250 tons of cement per day. It can produce a maximum of 500 tons. 2. The Lav Cement Factory at Pleven, produces 150 to 250 tons per day. The quality of the cement is inferior to that manufactured. at the Granitoid group. 3. The Vulkan group of cement factories at present being built at Dimitrovgrad, have a scheduled capacity of up to 1,000 tons per day. A certain amount is being produced here already, but all of it is used in construction work for the Dimitrovgrad factories. 6. The Gebedje glass factory manufactures bottles and other glass goods. It is situated at Lake Gebedje, west of Varna. The proprietors have been condemned to death for speculation, and the factory is working at only 50 percent capacity because of the lack of trained personnel. 7. The Pernik glass factory manufactures window glass. The average production is 1,000 square meters. Since the nationalization of the factory, the quality of the glass produced has gone down. 8. Vagona Fabrik.a, a freight-car manufacturing and repair factory, is at Gorna- Orehovitsa. Uspeh, a brick factory five kilometers southeast of Sofia, is the larget brick factory in Dilgaria and has a potential. maximum of 10,000 bricks per day. 4. Izida, a former cement factory at the village of Kurilo, has now been con verted to a brick and tile factory. It produced the best-grade bricks and tiles in the country as well as other constructional material and electric insulators. 9. J?P. Rabotilnitsa, situated in the Voenna Rarapa quarter of Sofia (Military Station) has 10,000 workers and specialists. It is owned by the State Railways and has workshops for the repair of freight cars and locomotives. It also makes, parts for locomotives and small motor engines. '~ ':ENCE AGENCY CENMk 10, Derzavna Masina Fabrika, at Lovec, manufactures motors and machines of various kinds for the iron industry. 11. Voena (Military) Fabrika at Kazanlik is a military factory and arsenal. 12. Voena Fabrika at Sopot. 13. Voena Fabrika at Karlovo. 14, Neptun, a Naval dockyard for construction of small vessels and sailing boats, has now been nationalized and made part of the state naval yards of Koralovag, south of Varna port. The two yards together employ 4,000 workers. At present they have under construction, for completion before the end of the year, two vessels of 1,000 tonsil and 10 large sailing ships. Besides this, various ships are undergoing repairs there. ]5, A synthetic rubber factory is at present under construction in the Voena Rampa quarter of Sofia. Production is expected to commence in 1949. 16. Pepede, situated at Drvenitsa (Sofia), manufactures rubber shoes and rubber goods. 17. Sebra, situated in the industrial quarter of Sofia (southeast of Central Station), manufactures rubber soles for shoes. 18. Perun, situated in the same quarter of Sofia as Zebra, manufactures rubber goods. Its capacity is small. the 19. Petko Kunin, situated in/same quarter, manufactures shoes for sports wear. 20. The Bakic Factory at Sofia manufactures motor car tires, rubber shoes and soles. It has 800 workers and is the only tire factory in Bulgaria. This factory,, the largest in the nation, accounts for 30 percent of the goods produced in the country. During April, May and the first half of Jure, the factory was out of production because of the explosion of a boiler. 21. The Eternik factory at Ruse manufactures rubber shoes. 22. The Ebonit factory at Pazardzhik manufactures rubber goods and plastics. 23. Sila, at Pazardzhik, is the second largest rubber goods factory in the country and accounts for 20 percent of the country's production. It specializes in peasants' shoes. 24. The following smaller rubber factories are situated in Sofia: Balkan - At Boulevard Slivnitsa No. 319 Guma - At Boulevard Slivnitsa No. 317 Kavaldjiev - At Iskar Station Slon - At No. 6 Rue Kaspska During 1948 the above factories producing rubber goods have been supplied with 500 tons of raw rubber, imported from Russia. Half of the tire pro- duction goes to Russia. 25. The Zavodi Nikola Chilov factories are situated at Kostinbrod, 35 kilometers north of Sofia, on the Sofia-Lose road. They produce soap, glycerine,, nitro- glycerine., gelinite and soda. These factories are the largest chemical works in the country and employ 3,000 workers. At present they ,are working to 75 percent of capacity, but are limited by lack of raw -iterials. 26. Bulgarski Aptekarski Kooperacii manufactures pharmaceuticals, such as aspirin, sulphantides and injection ampoulea. This company is limited by lack of raw materials. It is situated in the village of Ilienci six or seven kilometers from Sofia. Vagledvuokia,situated in Sofia at No. 220 Boulevard Slivnitsa, manufactures carbon' dioxide, liquid gases and explosives. 28. The Oxygen firm produces liquid gases. It has 50 percent of the capacity of Vagledvuokis factory. It is 'situated in the new district of Sofia. 29. Stamenov makes gunpowder for shot-gun cartridges and explosives for use in mines. It is situated at the village of Vrabnitsa, about five kilometers southeast of Sofia. 30. Elovitsa produces gunpowder and is situated 12 kilometers north. of Sofia 31. Kolarov produces carbide and is located at Ilienci. 32. Bulgarska Himiceska Industria manufactures chemicals, acids and tannery salts. It is located at No. 11. Lomsko Soso, Sofia. 33. Rodohimia produces industrial chemicals and is situated near the village of Orlarndovtai near Sofia, 34.
