As a result of t'ne cessation of supplies fron the Western Zones, the shor.:r;e
of raw materials for the railroads is now acute. The -rtoct rerious bottleneck
in the repair and new production of rollinrr stock is the lack of white retals
(Laageriaetallen), since even the small quantities of tin, basriura and zinc for
adcition to lead are 3-nakin?,
The leek of coupling 'hooka, buffer springs, lubricating pads rod ot'~er fittings
is provonting repaired' rolling stock in the shops from being put into service.
This lack, particularly of steel blocks for rolling into girders and Petal. &soets,
is jeopardizing the projected now construction of I4,OCO freight.. cr. x?sa
No plans are known to exist for the increase of the capacity of the railroad
lines to the ports of Rostock, Warnen%tnde and Wismar.
The only deliveries of railroad cars on Soviet repa-r-lions 'accoufit wort% r:oritiaanira;-

Waggonfaabrik Wiener. The latter has now stop"ed railroad err ;>, 6duetion M nd lies

and Dessa t6 resuned building cars only recently and ':eve not Yet (roc; ucad .*ay
large nurbor. They have up to the present been concerned 7rir>arily uith Vie
repair of railroad cars. iaggonfabrik Christoph and Unnxsek of
and :Tiaggonfabrik Schumann, Werda ,u, have recently started building new railroad
cars,.
rIo deliveries of nevily-built cars have yet been made b-- C er_-::an fire. in the Soviet
'one for Geruan use, because of tl'e shcrta'e of materials. Repairs to Gerran
roll ??ng stock have been effected by salvaging still usable pcrtc from old
rejected cars.
6. Work on the line between merlin and Ilarienborn has been partly delayed by the
lack of tics, roils, and ell iron Parts (fish plates, rail acreurs, base plates
and tie screens),
The Berlin--lagdeburg line is open to normal passenger traffic. The repair work
is mainly affecting the 'Nagdeburg4 arienborn lino; which is closed to all -traffic
except duty trains and work trains.

ae gau bermeen Berlin and Brest Litovsk is 1?435 mm. The gauge change-- at
Era--t Litovsk,. Because of the limited cai '.city of bridges, and track, the greatest
pcr arible axle load for care and-locomotives using this line is 16 tons
(8 tons per wheel). The greatest permissible weijht per meter for rolling stock
o od on this line is 3.6 tone/meters; the weight per motor means here the
tjoi gh.t of the car itself plus the weight of the load, divided by the length
2 -t.-he car , including the buffers.
