Parapsyc o o Researc Larissa V..~Vi ens aya, a parapsyc o ogist rom Moscow,. recently wrote to a US colleague that almost no opportunity exists for 'people like her to conduct serious parapsychological research without having to overcome numerous major obstacles. Recently, she has seen a trend in the USSR in' which the most active parapsychological researchers are being pushed aside by "officially appointed newcomer. s." Initially the Soviets evaluated the potential applica- tions benefits of numerous areas of parapsychology. ' The current increase in government control is believed to be directed toward those areas of parapsy- chology which were identified as being most promising for. successful applications developments. The control tactic probably is designed to restrict the foreign dissemina- tion of~information about Soviet research activities,. results, and methodologies by limiting the activities of researchers friendly to the ?West. ~- (b)(1) (b)(3) Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/12/01 :NSA-RDP96X00790R000100020021-3
