this opportunity to add a word of praise for U. Col. Fairbeirn*
Bering all of his term of duty with this branch, he haa tiaatnurtretedi
an intense interest in his work and became of hit pleasant personality
and exceptional ability, he has obtained results with his studeow
which we believe few nen could obtain. aa the only officer of tno
British Amy being used as an instructor in our schools, and as ,a
senior officer both in point of grade and in years of experience, no
has had to exercise a great deal of tact in his associatton with the
mixture of etudents who attended his �lames. This no nes done
unfailingly.
3. You will recall that I spoke to you a snort tine ago converse.
ing the matter of returning Lt. Col. Fairbairn to England and that yoo
stated that this should be done. I believe that in another 30 to 60
days he can be spared here and it would seas suitable that the arrange-
ments for his transfer to ETO should be started at this time. We
recently had an inquiry from the Chief, SWAM, as to whether or not
Lt. Col. Fairbairn could be made available to the Training Brunie there
for the purpose of instructing SO personnel in that theater. If this
need for his services is still valid and is in accord with your lashes*
it is suggested that a cable be sent to Colonel roma with instructkone
that he arrange for a TCA, and APR. Because of the tight personna3 eitum�i
tion in ETO, it is also suggested that this cable be seat by you in order
to avoid the necessity for arguing back and forth across the Atlantis as
to whether or not a slot for Lt. Col. Fairbairn is available in ETO. a
