Text Data
Coverage. Composition and thermal treatment of the automobile glass "Stalinit"
are described. The glass is made of conventional silicate composition,
heated to about 650 C, and subjected to rapid cooling by air in such
a mwmer that compression stresses develop in the surface layers and
tension stresses in the middle layers of the glass. Distribution of
the stresses is controlled by cooling time, thicimess and composition
of the glass and is partially corrected by the annealing process.

ABSTRACT: 'Lh,- authors measured by a pulsed method the longitudinal and transverse
~~_"Iaxatlon times T, and T2 of F19 nuclei in polycrystalline samples of M14BF4,
(TH02BeF4, and KSbF4 in the temperature interval from 4.2K to room temperature.
These salts were Investigated previously by the authors (FTT v. 6, 529, 1964) and by
others but in narrower temperature intervals. The samples were made in the form of
pressed cylinders 15 mm high and 10 mm. in diameter. The apparatus and the procedure
of the relaxation-time measurements were essentially the same an described in the
earlier paper. In the case of 144BF4 T, of fluorine decrcason with rising tempera-
ture, passes through a minimum, and then goes through a maximum. In the care of the
other two salts a continuous decrease was observed with increasing temperature. It
is deduced from the results that the main mechanism of the spin-lattice relaxation

of fluorine is the modulation of the dipole interactions bi the internal motions of
the groups of atoms in these compounds. In the case of KSbF4, a jump In the value
of T2 occurs at 230K, and there arc Indications of a phase transition near 170K.

Abstract I The advantages derived by using peat extracts as dross peptizing agents,
instead of the conventicnal sodium carbonate. are discussed. The dross.
obtained by applying peat extracts to the molten glass, was found to be
more volqtile, W contain less moisture and have a lower rate of solid-
ification. The time required :for the formation of the crock is much re-
duced by the application of peat extracts. Tables.

of military personnel on the basis of various psycholo(-,lc&l factors is di3cunoed. The
importance of human behavior, natural pro-,)onsity, environmental influences and other
:actors of a psychological nature are atresaed. APplications of psychoana-litica-I :zvtnoda
(since 1922) to the Air Force personnel ana speciid aptitude tests are mentioned. A
I'LIrther development and improvement in selection of specialized personnel for var-ouB
services is strongly recommended, e.,i'Decially in connection W-ith rew W,~Upom
requiring new approaches to their effective u.,ie Fuid applications. Distinctive inclina-
tiorw of a person's character for doing bottor work in one or another specialty must be
'aken into account and discovered by using special aptitude testing methoda. 3ome sta-
tistical results taken from American and French Air Force aptitude testing practices are
cited. In connection with these results, it is mentioned that about 30% of military

academy cadets were not accepted for aircraft piloting service. Some deficiencies of
aptitude testing by meanB of using stwAard paper forms with problems and questions are
criticised, and the use of special automatic devices for examination of candidates in
reco=ended. A special program wan worked out coverinp sensitive reactions (airht, hear-
ing, touch), mental faculties (concontration, attention, diversion, emotion) and various
be!-.avior patterns. The device tenting is accompanied by interviews and discussions con-
uucted by the momborn of the examination commianion. An example of a successful applica-
tion of trLia improved poycholoCioal system is prosontud in connection with high ratings
received by 337 Pilot cadeto who had boon selected by the commiasion for pilot tr&tning.
7r.o psychological method of aptitude testing is widely used in aviation schools. Hope
~u expressed that this method also will be used for recruitizie personnel for naval,
armored-tank and rocket-missile forces.
