Abstract: The authors describe 237 cases of children suffering from rhe-
umaLic fever and carditis, respectively. All were afflicted for less than
30 days before treatment commenced, and all showed signs of the disease
for the first time. The effects of therapy employing prednisolone + amid-
azophene and amidazophene alone were discussed with respect to total re-
covery and any cardiac changes that developed. The criteria for the clas-
sification of- the cases were described and it was recommended that the
treatment involving prednisolone be employed in all cases where there is
a suspicion of carditis. 65 references, including 9 Hungarian, 1 Rur!;fan,

TEXTj The authors investigate migration phenomena in the double triode
6 H 3 n (6NZP) with a bantam construction. The parts of the invedtigated
bantam radio tube were radiated with thermal neutrons, in a nuclear reactor
and thereby they were made radioactive. About 0-60 days after the
radiation when short-life isotopes (Au198 , Mg;8 and others) wera decayed#
such a radioactive structural element was installed in the tube 6 NZP.
Then the activity generated by this element in other parts of the tube was
measured. The results of the measurements have only a qualitative V~
character. It was stated s The material of the core of the heater, in the
case in question it was tungsten, migrated to most of the elements of the

the core of the cathode - nickel - comes on the net and the anode by
vaporization through the pores of the oxide - coating. The material of the
net (nickel and tungsten) vaporized onto the cathode, anode, insulators,
shield grid. The materials of the oxide - coating (Ba133 and C14) appeared
on the anodee, shield grid and on the inner surfaces of the mica
insulators. The observed migration phenomena are essential for the
investigation of the work of the oxide cathode since because of the
porosity of the oxide coating the migrating elements penetrate in the dept
and influence the emission properties of the cathode.

TITLE: EXPE!rieiwe in Operating 40-Ton Arc Furnace Wltlh High
Secondary Voltage
PERIODICAL~ Stall, 1960, Nr 2, pp 128-129 (USSR)
ABSTRACTz The author refutes the conclusions of D. F. Qladkiy, V. F.
Ivanlko, and V. V. Kurganov, as well as S. A. Morgulev,
on the above subject as discussed in Stall, 1959, Nr 1.
By way of comparison, an electric furnace with coupled
tran,,,,formers was converted into a 110-ton furnace and
operated under the same conditions as other arc furnaces
in the shop. In 1958 a study of the results of the work
of units with similar transformers but different secondary
voltage during the melting period showed the adverse
effect of high voltage (420 and 336 v) on lining, produc--
tivity, and technological possibilities of the units.
Card 11,12 This was corroborated by the German practice of working

with high secondary voltage. ln referring to the opera-
'k-.-ion of large capacity furnaces with high voltage in the
U.S. the author emphasizes t.hat D. F. Gladkly and S. A.
.Mo.rgulev failed to consider specific features of U.S.
furnacez (light charge, high voltage used for 10 to 15
min only, absence of electric furnaces with rotary bodie,C,1
etc.). In conclusion the author states, (i) The intro-
duction of coupled transformers is inexpedient since
only 85% of the total capacity is used and is, therefore,
recommerlded only as a temporary measure; (2) to prolong
lining life and improve productivity in medium-size and
large electric arc furnaces it is advisable to increase
the transformer power by increasing the secondary current
instead of the voltage; (3) minimum de,~omposition of
electrodes Is suggested In conformity with, the location
of holder heads and durability of the roof center. The
ra~--Io of the electrode decompouition diameter to meltir.- -
space diameter should not exceed 0.30. There 'is 1 tat
