I ORG: none TITLE: Preparative methods for diphenic acid SOURCE: Khimicheskaya promyshlennost', no. 9, 1966, 17-21 TOPIC TAGS: phenanthrene, oxidation ABSTRACT: This is a review of preparative.methods for diphenic acid, with.26 Soviet and 97'Weste'rn'r'eferences. The review was undertaken because: 1) 'dipbenic acid is a promising starting material for such valuable synthetic materials as bigh-temperature\\lubricitia&_211~Aor physiologically active com- pounds and 2) because large amounts of phenanthrene available in the 'USSR 'find no proper utilization. The review deals with several preparative methods for diphenic acid, none of which has found industrial application. Individual methods are discussed, and it is,concluded that the most ,promising are methods involving catalytic oxidation of phenauthrene with ozoniz'ed oxygen or ati666~h-eilc'oxygen. Yaroslavsk. tekhnol. in-ta 1959, Vol. 3, PP. 179-199 MIT., The'authors studied the properties of mixtures cf bul~~dienestyrene rubbers with resorain-formaldehyde (I) and anilin-formaldehyde (11) res,ns. I was introduced to GKC-30 SKS- Eatex (Defo number 3ooo, 4.7% Nekal c,-ntc-n-..)' and GKC-30 PP 111tex SKS- AR Defo number 500, 6.9% Nekal content). IT. waB U-6 added to CKC -25- V '(TK-S--2-5-KTdicid latex (Defo number 3700, 7.4 esteramine content, 3-5 pH). The mixture of latex with resin were coagulated or al.L~I.wed to gelate, and dried. Rubber mixtures were prepared on rollers. The specimens were vulcanized at 1430C for 80, ICO and 120 minutes and their physical and chemical properties were determined. Vulcanized rubber with 15 weight of I and 43 weight portions of II per 100 weight portions of rubber were highly Card 1/2 83627 S/081/60/000/o14l/0091'009 A006/A001 The Application of Synthetic Resins as Strengtheners of Rubber Mixtures, K resistant to rupture tearing and wear. Moreover, 11 imparts bigh elazt,1--ity t~D the vulcanized rubber. If the dosage of I is increased to 30 weigbt' pc'r+A and that of II to 80 weight portions, the hardness of raw mixtures and v-aisanizsd rubbers increased. The aging time of I until the mixing with latex (uT -,o 24 h,vars) does not affect the properties of strengthoned vulganized rubbers. If V 'the aging time in the mixture with latex is raisea to 96 hours the streng-th of the vulcanized rubbers is enhanced. Changes in the proportion of resorsin and HCOH in I do not affect the properties of vulcanized rubbers obtained by ccagulla- ti,~,n. A higher amount of HCOH and temperatures raised to BOOC reduce gelat!--~n time. The replacement of resorcin in I by phenol reduced resistfulce t.:) ru;rire, ,/P, i0% ur,--4-op-,n tear and the moduli of the vulcanized rubbers. The addition of - to I accelerates the gelation process and causes higher strength. The addition of carbon black (30 weight portions per 100 weight portions of rubber) to the mixtWre of I with SKS-,V AR produces mixtures with exclusively high ztrength. and wear resistance. A slight relaxation of stress and the constancy of il'"e. mcdul-.Is a'~ a temperature raised to 700C prove the minor part of int-ermoleculax ~!n in strengthening resins with I. I. The fields of acoustic pressures and velocities in the gas are determined with regard to the interaction with the walls of the elastic shell It is assumed that the displacements in the shell and the associated disturbances of the flow parameters are so small that the equations of motion can be linearized and that the tangetial inertia forces in the shell are small as compared with the cor- responaing elastic forces. Equations of motion, of the normal force under free vibration, and of disturbances in an in viscid fluid are used in determining the wave numbers and frequencies of longitudinal (downstream and upstream) and radial waves. The effect of rigidity of the shell on the frequency of simultaneous vibrations of the shell and gas is discussed in detail, Parametric vibrations of a cylindrical shell produced by axisymmetric waves propagating downstream from a source in infinity Card 1/2 UDC: 5-39.3 + 621.454 - ACC NRt are also discussed, and expressions for determining the regions of parametric vibra- tions are derived from the equation for axisymmetric acoustic pressure on the shell walls, taking into account inertial forces, and structural dallp'ing in the shell material.
